A truth I can relate to.My father tried to buy a small 'collection' of around 10 vintage cars from a local 'character' (in fact he was the town mayor for several years), all of them mid 1930s and older.
They were just sitting in an open field for years, and my father always got the same answers.
By the time the old guy had passed on, there was nothing left to restore, of any of them.
As for the OP's case; it could simply be an owner who has come on hard times (I mean he is driving a Yaris after all
), or maybe the repair bills just wouldn't make sense.But the fact remains; they do not improve with age.

Wait until someone had spend a bloody fortune renovating it and then buy it when it came back on the market, at about half the restoration cost.
This looks like it has metal hinges at the back, so its an old model and probably not worth more than £10-12k in good nick. Engine rebuild will cost £3-4k, tyres alone £1k, bits, bobs and annoying things you wouldn't have thought about, another few thou.
So unless he'll give it to you for less than £5k, its a money pit from which your credit card will not return. And like all sellers, he'll think its a great car thats in the prime of his life, so will want more than that, I guess?
