Anyone run R1R or AD08r

Afternoon

New wheels are on the way but i've been reading loads of reviews/opinions on tyres.

Because of whats available i'll be going 215/45/17 front and 235/45/17 rear.

I've narrowed it down to Toyo R1R or Yoko AD08R.
Price isn't that different.
Toyos are about £470 a set and AD08s are £460.

Has anyone got experience of running these on a Chim?
Mainly road use but will be doing as many track days as I can get onto this year hopefully.

no but I have ran Federal RSR's and Nangkang NS2R both very successfully, immense grip from both sets of tyres

Got a set of Toyos on mine, very happy with them.

I'm no F1 driver but I do push it occasionally, I find that I do get some feed back from the rear about when it's thinking of letting go.
Less so with the fronts (unexpected understeer until the right foot goes down) but this is probably as much to do with my lack of skill rather than the tyres.

Are you talking T1Rs or R1Rs as I found the R1Rs very neutral.

I run R1Rs as my road/wet TD tyres and Tripple 8s for track.

I've had an email to say they've made the wheels already so I'll see what stocks are like tomorrow of the two options.
I haven't heard anything bad about R1R's so I think I might give them a try, I want something to inspire a bit more confidence on the road. I've got T1Rs are the moment and they aren't great

Got R1R's on the Griff (about a year ago) and they grip fantastically. I understand they have stopped making them and some sizes are impossible to get hold of.

Do you have any picturs of your wheels and what it easy to get the right offsets ?

yeah they are 17s all round, et35 rear et25 fronts.
straight spoked mo5's so pretty similar to the Avez's I have now, wanted something a bit different to everyone else so hopefully they will look nice when on the car.

Give the Kumho KU36 a look, we have them fitted on the Lotus Elan & Vauxhall VX220 Turbo and find them really good..... similar tyre to the R1R/AD08 but much cheaper,XS (eXtreme Street) :-)

how do you find them on the road? Are they ok in damp/wet conditions? I did look at them but read lots of mixed reviews?

I have experienced Road legal track day tyres on the road ,they do grip better but i find them harsh ,i can feel the road surface ,even on smooth tarmac roads it gets on your nerves .

There is always a compromise ,there is no such thing has an all in one tyre .

They are a seriously good tyre, fantastic grip dry & wet, tyre noise is also good. and the price.... shop around & you will be surprised, I think we will be putting them on the Tam? but will have to go up a size.

I did about 5 or 6 TDs with T1Rs, they were awful.

You could dial in excessive oversteer or understeer by throttling on or off, dangerous at speed but fun if you expect it!

i've gone for AD08r's after loads of peoples reviews saying they are very similar in performance but the AD08Rs apparently last longer and live up to a bit more abuse on track.
215/45/17 front and 235/45/17 rears then i'll pop it to Mat Smiths for a geo.
Hopefully I'll finally have some confidence at any sort of speed

I use AD08R on the front and R1R on the rear, I wanted R1R all round but they didn't do them in the size I needed for the front. I find them great on the road, the grip is reasonable in the wet and they work well together. I haven't done a TD on them but the R1R worked well at the strip.

Will a few mm in diameter from one set to another before to throw the Geo out ? There is probably 5 to 8mm difference on both sets of tyres .

not too sure on the geo but it hasn't been done yet so Mat can make it work

I would think changing between tyres of different profile (or wall height as you mention 5/8mm) has no effect upon Geo - the "real" difference will be in Corner weighting if the difference occurs front to rear?

It only takes 10/15 mins to check/set-up and makes a whole world of difference compared to trying to set so-may MM clearance under suspension arms? Have a read here: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/understa...

So set the Geo, then do the corner weighting with tyres you are using and the driver in the driving seat!!?
