There again - it could also be that she didn't do it. The Italian system, like ours and that of the United States, has many layers of appeals and counter-appeals.

It ain't been to the top yet. Almost but not quite. She was found guilty then she was acquitted on appeal and freed. That acquittal has been quashed forcing a re-trial. To the best of my knowledge that trial hasn't finished yet.

IF she's found guilty again she'll be extradited - or will never, ever be able to leave the US ever again. In the mean time she spent time in Italian jails and may well have been innocent. We don't know.

Yes the appeal acquittal being quashed effectively means she's guilty again - pending the next thing.

The likelihood of the US actually arresting her and shipping her to Italy is negligible, I agree. The problem, for her, will be if she ever travels to a country with a treaty with Italy she's screwed. So she will be stuck in the US for the rest of her life.

There again the US is big. Room enough, I imagine, but this was a girl with the get up and go to go abroad to study. I'm sure that will rankle.

Of course - she's not the victim in all of this. She may or may not be an innocent caught up in it. That's still to go to a final decision in Italy's appeal courts, I understand.

If you had to pick country that you could never leave again, USA must be top of most peoples lists surely. It has pretty much most things for most people, somewhere.
