I'd say you need to do a little general research on the philosophy behind hosting.

Do they get to sit in your living room or is it a deck chair outside the window?

Not on his property for christ's sake! On the footpath in a plastic white chair, supplied by themselves.

This has never crossed my mind until now. Thinking about it I'd probably phone and ask "should I put it on the drive" before parking. Although if its family/close friend I'd just bang it on the drive (providing I'm not blocking anything in)

Although if people were parking on my drive (granted I don't have one) it would most certainly not annoy me hehe

If we are expecting visitors, as courtesy I leave a space on the drive for them and stick my wifes car on the road.

I wouldn't go and move my car onto the road so they could take my space, but providing there is space for their car, why on earth wouldn't they use it?

Im with the OP on this, especially when i keep repeatedly having to ask the daughters boyfriend to park his car on the road next time so that i can get mine out as i use it at various times during the day for work.

It's not as if there is no where to park out there.

I'm interested to hear if other people share my opinion on this, but it really gets on my goat when visitors to our house park on our driveway. I was brought up to consider that unless you were invited to park on the drive of the house you were visiting then you park your car on the road outside - in my opinion it is common courtesy.
My wife disagrees and can't see what the problem is and actually told her sister to park in my space when she came to stay today for the night so when I came home from work I had to park my car on the road. We've had this discussion before and I said by all means move your car off the drive to let your sister park on it if you don't see it as an issue, but don't expect me to put up with the inconvenience. I genuinely don't see why when we pay out good money to have a house wih a 2 car driveway, that I should the one to put my car at risk out on the road, and have the inconvenience of it. In addition when we go to their house, no effort is made to vacate the drive for us....

Am I being unreasonable or do other people share my view? confused

Is the OP trolling?

When I drive to a house, I use the space you have provided for parking cars to, er, park my car. It would be weird not to!

How long are you staying?

If you are staying for the weekend, park on the road so that they can get the car out, or at least be prepared to: my BIL still doesn't park on my parents' driveway after 15 years.

If you're popping round for 10 minutes and they're definitely not going out while you're there, why would you not use the parking space?
