Hello,

Someone I know is selling their Defender 90.

It has trick suspension, roll bar, aux battery, snorkel, etc etc. The whole lot.

He was going to put it on Autotrader but I just don;t think that's the best place to advertise it.

Can anyone tell me where best to sell such a specialist car?

Thank

Mike

I'd have tried on here, then maybe eBay.

I was wondering if there is an owners club website with classifieds or similar?

Plenty. As someone with a passing interest in buying a SWB defender, the ones advertised on here seem to be the most over-priced. Ebay prices vary with seemingly little logic.

FWIW - Whenever I see a Defender with 'All the toys', I just want to run a mile. To me, that just says 'abused and badly maintained'.

Your best bet is to take all the 'bling' off and revert it back to a standard car. The car will appeal to a much wider audience and you can sell the 'bling' on e-Bay.

Just sold my defender today although probably not in the price league that you will be asking (I was in the £4-5k bracket). The following places that I advertised the car were:
Pistonheads
LandyZone (if you have more than 50 posts)
LRO
Land Rover Monthly
Gumtree
Autotrader
slroc2 (as I was Scotland based)

In the end it got sold via Autotrader.

However with Gumtree, Ebay and even Pistonheads be prepared for a lot of SPAM, silly offers and time wasters.

Don't worry about the bling as I would put in the ad that the extra stuff can be removed if required and that the seller will do it at request (in case it puts people off).

Cheers
George

Quite a sweeping statement. Nothing wrong with a lift kit, snorkel and decent tyres. If the buyer is that bothered, they would just remove it. Also, you can judge the state of a Defender by having a good look round it. I certainly wouldn't remove the tyres.

I'd sell the LR on EBay. You can write two pages of description. Autotrader certainly doesn't let you do that. I've used pistonheads in the past, but it didn't generate as much enquiries as EBay.

I tend to agree with Camel on this. Mods and upgrades are very much a personal thing for the owner, and although bling can be removed, who'd want to buy a truck just to set to with the spammers and spend their time taking stuff of it?
And although there's nothing wrong with a lift kit there's not much right about them either.

You're right, it is quite a sweeping statement but you've probably not come across as many heaps of blinged up st as I have!!! hehe
