Hi All,
After some ideas. My Dad curently drives an Alfa GT Blackline JTD which is falling apart and dropping oil all over the driveway. He's recently retired and I'm trying to point him at something petrol as he's goign to be doing pretty low annual mileage. I've not asked on budget but for now lets say £10K max. The critera are along the following:
Over to the PH masses.

The critera are along the following:
- £10K budget
- Coupe-ish (That's what he loved about the GT)
- Fun to drive
- Petrol with 40mpg or above if driven like a pensioner (which he is)
- Reasonable running costs
- Less than 100,000 miles
- Not older than 2007-ish
- 4 usable seats.
- Nothing french
Over to the PH masses.

- Petrol with 40mpg or above if driven like a pensioner (which he is) - Over 20mpg easily and it's LPG? Check?
- Reasonable running costs - Cheap to service, simple cars, brakes maybe expensive
- Less than 100,000 miles - Check
- Not older than 2007-ish - Quite a big 'ish'

- 4 usable seats. - Huge seats and very comfy front or back

Personally from the list below I'd choose the CLK, I have a Clk63, Clk320 cdi & having sold my 160,000 mile 2005 CLK270 without anything going wrong I reckon your dad won't go wrong with a diesel one of those, the petrols are good as well neither will let you down. Most modern cars are fairly reliable though.
Does it really have to be Petrol & do 40mpg? The Scirocco will only be the 1.4 to meet your fuel criteria.
If it does how about these:

The TT only averages 36mpg (Claimed so you know it'll actually be worse)

It's the oil cooler joints. Get a cheap repair kit from Autolusso. Problem solved. Well, at least that problem anyway! And petrol and 40mpg+ is going to mean soul destroyingly slow. If he liked the Blackline, a Brera S 3.2 would be the obvious choice and sod the mpg.

What exactly do you mean by "usable rear seats"? Are we talking about taking his two toddle grand-children to the local park, or three adult basket-ball players to the other end of the country?
A couple of normal sized adults for a day out.
I dare say the A5 and C-class coupe will do a similar job if he prefers them although I'm not sure if they have petrol engines capable of averaging 40mpg.
