Good quality Digital Camera with remote operation?

No idea if this should go in Computers or Photography so I'll start here and play "follow the mods trail"

We need to be able to mount a digital camera around 10M from a computer and control it - we're struggling because webcams don't seem to offer good enough still quality, whilst a traditional digital compact offers the picture quality but doesn't appear to offer the ability to take a photo remotely even if connected to a computer via USB.

Does anyone know whether a GoPro remote control can be left permanently connected to the mains, and whether the remote control can power it on remotely?

Panasonic Lumix TZ60 is a great camera and it has remote control via a smart phone app.

Go pro's can be used for live feeds, no idea if they can be triggered though.

my Olympus EM 10 can be controlled remotely from my iPhone or iPad

Nikon slr and probably other cameras can be controlled via usb and the pictures downloaded. 10m may be the issue but 5m definitely works with my d7000
