Chirping Sound

I took my car out (M12 3R) last night and heard a chirping sound coming from the engine - it sounded like a bird had made a nest in the engine bay. I could only hear it when idling at 900 RPM.

I couldnt locate it when I opened the back up.

Any ideas?

Based on you only hearing it at idle I would check that the belts are tensioned correctly

Yup, that'll be it. As soon as mine gets damp it does the same.

when you've got birds in the car tighten the belts before it gets wet.

Yep its probably a bird and its nest or maybeeeee check for mice!

Serious now, if its a 5 speed gearbox mine (and apparently a lot) used to have a bit of a rattle at tickover - layshaft or something. Mine was cured by speeding up the tickover.
Could it be that?
Check by seeing what happens when you depress the clutch - if its gearbox it will stop when the clutch is disengaged.
