My current setup uses my amp as the hub with everything plugged into it via hdmi and then out to the TV with a harmony one remote controlling them all. It works fine, although I'd like to take advantage of the CES capabilities of all the devices for more reliable control. The thing is my tv only recognises the amp on the CES bus. All the sources I have are CES compatible but don't seem to be able to talk to each other via the amp. Is this normal? Can CES signals "pass though" a device?

Would I be better off using the TV as the hub to get everything talking via CES and just use the HDMI ARC back to the amp? The TV is capable of 5.1 over ARC so no downsides there as far as I can see.

Any recommendations?

Your TV remote should see the other. CES devices if they are all connected to the amp.

I have a Denon AV amp with the HDMI out going to the SamsungTV. My Panasonic Blu Ray is connected to one of the HDMI inputs on the amp.

When all are on, the Samsung remote volume controls the volume of the amp and the play/rewind etc buttons control the Blu Ray.

Are you sure that CES is actually turned on on all the devices? Most have to be via the setup menu.

Yes, CES is enabled on all devices, but only the AV amp (Yamaha) is picked up by the TV. All the other devices downstream of the amp are seemingly invisible to the TV. Checking the CES device discovery menu on the TV and its only the amp that shows up.

Is there typically something else that needs to happen or be done to get it working? Do I need any particular minimum standard of HDMI cable?

I can only assume that there may be a setting on the amp to send the CES signal from any input device to the HDMI output.

Other than that, I have no idea frown

Best of luck getting it sorted - it's great when it works!

Personally I wouldn't bother with CEC, there's not a whole lot to be gained by using it and devices don't always play nice. If you insist on using it then any HDMI cable should work, pin 13 is CEC.

My amp and Blu Ray are in a rack in another room so in that scenario CEC is great. I find the WiFi app controls a pain in the arse on the amp and not as responsive as an IR remote.
