Setting aside the financials and obviously we don't know that much about the RS as yet. Let's have a few supposed pros and cons of changing to the RS. I am sure there are a few who are planning to do just that and who have a slot. What I am after is reactions from those who are not planning on doing loads of track days. I am totally smitten with my GT3 and will be happy to embark on many thousands of miles mainly because it is so comfortable. Only a bit of light hearted Sunday afternoon nonsense till the Rugby comes on!

For me I am looking for that extra 2/10s from the 991RS on track in relation to the 991GT3, whist the GT3 is great fun on track, when the conditions allow and you can press on, the suspension on the GT3 could do with being a little firmer..

Nice one Apolo, that's a start. Surprised to hear that the GT3's suspension is not firm enough even in hard setting. So I must assume that the RS set up will be too hard to endure for big road miles. This then must be the first con regarding a change to the RS.

I think the RS looks cool, but (assuming that i could actually get one), i would not change from the GT3 as i like that it is a surprisingly good road car. The RS sounds like it will be a little too compromised for a B road blast or European jaunt.

Besides, the RS will be even more coveted and so i would feel nervous giving it 10/10ths on track (already a bit worried with the GT3). I also have a little Elise that would beat either car on track and is far more intimate to drive, yet costs nowhere near to replace either! However, it's also not road legal so it's great to have the GT3 as the perfect all-rounder.

Take your point tho do not fully understand. What is your understanding of the word compromised? I would guess that you mean that the RS will have little or no power or torque till you were really giving it the beans by which time the suspension will have rattled your teeth out. Plus your licence would be in tatters.

I don't expect the power delivery will be materially different to the GT3. For me I would expect the ride to much more compromised - i.e. stiff which would make it less suitable for road driving.

You've described me. I'm enjoying my 991 GT3, I've been promised an RS, I rarely go near a track but I drive pretty hard on the road. I'm attracted to the rarity of the RS and I have other cars for daily comfort. I'll probably keep my current car until I read that the RS is better, which I'm sure it will be. I mean, if you can get one, you should. It's better than money in the bank.

previously, the main downsides previous RS owners have posted about the reasons for moving on have been related to suspension stiffness, ride height and limitations on tyres (i.e. cup rubber).

It does not look like the next RS is going to be any different in these regards and due to its Turbo-shell size, its use on UK roads will be more limited (something mentioned during the 991 Turbo reviews).

As an owner disagree with all of this.
991GT3 in even in none sport rides firmer than a 997GT3RS 4.0, As for the ride height, never ever had to use the lift on the 4.0RS, the 991GT3 have to use it every time I drive, sits a lot lower then 4.0..

Been running 991 Turbo S from the day it came out,( now on my 2nd) as a DD in UK and some long haul Eu trips, never at any single time had any problem with the width of the car, parking, driving etc.

Thats ok mate, its good to have different opinions on here. Just speaking from my own experience with a 997 Turbo with aerokit, I have covered 35k miles with it now and I would say its too low and too wide for many B roads and the new RS is even lower and wider than this.

I have been many hairy spots with my car (£2k body damage receipts as a badge of honour) and no doubt many of them could have been avoided with a lift but the width of the car is a problem for me in Wales and Cornwall, no doubt about that. Especially when trying to push on, infact, I don't think you can push on in a 997 turbo on many roads. I can't imagine the 991 Turbo being better at 1880mm + wing mirrors.

On one occasion I took my car to the Cube hotel in Birmingham. I was lucky to get my car down the on-ramp. Once I got the car into the car park automated lift (mm to spare) it was digested by the automated car park lift system (its one of those high-tech mechanised jobs from Japan) walked off with the better half to check in.

2 Hours and one top steak meal later I come back down into the lobby to find furious staff and even more furious customers. My car had broken the whole car-park system as it was too low and stopped all cars going in and out. I had to give the keys to the staff to get my car out as I was ten sheets to the wind.

So yeah, RS could be fine in terms of width and ride height, just don't take it to the Cube in Birmingham biggrin

Only my view as an owner, actually thinking about it, the problem with the 991Turbo S, but only at times is if you engage the active aero, the front pop out spoiler can be a bit low on some car parks, but the width is zero problem, even in tight parking spaces..

Don't see the RS as problem width wise, but don't see how it can sit any lower the 991GT3....any way it will only be problem for few, due to the ultra low nos.....

Now we are getting somewhere. quite where though I don't know. All this talk of compromise still don't understand the relevance.

Re width of the car.. Them 458 drivers would just stop driving their machines in the UK at 2m eiddth i think.

agreed but 458 is more of an A-to-A car, people see the 911 as A-2-B transport so while new RS won't be anywhere near as wide as a 458 it will be longer. I think its going to surprise a few people as to how massive the 991 RS is going to be in real life, with all the aero attached.

Just on the point of ride heights, sounds like your 991GT3 is setup extra low as my experience is totally the opposite. I can easily get a standard 991 GT3 into places where a standard 997.2RS and 4.0RS have struggled even with lift. I have noticed how high the 991 sits with comparison to earlier cars. It is very well damped not sure about stiffer though.

Surprised the red / orange colour of the model isn't going to be the launch colour .
