The Japanese were no better i believe. Horrifying how the human mind can be programmed to do such things.
Rob.
My great uncle was captured by the Japanese just before the end of the second world war. I honestly do not want to know what happened to him, but I would like to visit his grave for my nan.

Actually, in many cases, they did not know the full horror of what happened.
It was known that concentration camps existed, but these were originally created to house criminals or enemies of the state.
In the case of Auschwitz, it only became a death camp later on.
To reduce the trauma of the murders for Germans and to reduce the number of outside people who needed to know , the Nazi's used captured Ukrainians initially to handle all the Jewish people arriving to their doom. Later, the Nazi's then forced Jewish people to clean the gas chambers and remove the bodies.
So while the German people knew of concentration camps, it is fair to say that they did not all know of the way that these camps had become death camps dedicated to the systematic slaughter of millions.
This point became clear when the allies arrived. In some cases they took the local villagers into the camps to see what had been happening in them, to the obvious disgust of many of them when they realised what the Nazi dream had become.

Just watched it, and its so hard to believe you are seeing the actions of human beings. The sort of persons that can carry out these and other atrocities which still go on in areas of the world are beyond my comprehension.
A few years ago you might recall a programme called the Second World War in Colour. It was on tv at the same time as the war in the Balkans. They showed film of columns of refugees fleeing from the Germans in Russia. At the same time, news programmes were showing similar movements of people in Bosnia and Croatia. As both were in colour, you could watch either and not be sure which war you were watching.
We don't learn very much as we go on do we.

And if sheer numbers are taken into the consideration Stalin would probably rank as the worst of the lot, starving literally millions of his own people to feed the soldiers.
A period of history that is as terrifying as it is fascinating. Let's hope it never leaves our school curriculums.
North Korea is currently fusing Stalinist and Nazi ideology to control its people. Some of the reports bear a striking resemblance to the Nazi concentration camps or the Stalinist programmes that starved millions. That country could sure as hell do with liberating right now, poor wretched brainwashed population. UN is useless, and nothing much in it for America. Why cant the worlds free nations get our act together and sort these scum out. Its not as if there arent enough of us.
I went to berlin six months ago,i visited a camp called Sachsenhausen,it is less than 20 miles from berlin.it was training camp for SS they killed over 80,000.the locals knew about because the train station is 2 miles away from camp they walked from the station being abused by locals.it is 400 hectares in size they had workshops and the sickess thing is medical complex.the saddess thing is the russians used the same area for a camp in fiftes.it was the most moving day of my life and should never be forgotten

Well TBH in terms of been a real bastard to your own people anyway he certainly ranks up there with Hitler.
It may well not amount to much but some years ago I became friends with a guy who was in the waffen ss in russia (amongst other places) (please don't get the concentration camp guards mudled up with the waffen, they weren't angels, agreed, but not the same bunch of guys you read about)
anyway the joke between them and the Russians was who had killed more Russians , uncle Joe or uncle Himmie and they always agreed that Joe had done more...

it always amazes me what a sick b'stad hitler was.but also how clever he or his PR machaine was.he managed to turn an intire nation against a relegion, then managed to kill over 6million of thenm under the noses of the intir epopulation whilst still carrying a suicidal war
may I just remind everyone that it wasnt just the jewish that were executed in these camps. Rusians people from the balcans, Gyspsies ,handicapped people and probably many more.
Also many may not know that the Italians also had camps like this and set them up with the knowlage of the Pope. The Pope helped the comanders of these camps escape after the war.
Soldiers would also walk into villages in Serbia and ask children to do that sign of the cross thing that catholics do. If they did it the "wrong" way i.e they were not Roman Catholics they were executed on the spot or rounded up and sent on trains.

Check out people like Cecil Rhodes... Didn't fair much better ourselves in past times - him amounting to phony (technically un-winable) wars, mad political ramblings, and despite not being able to use "slavery" responsible for a shocking way of life for many chaps in their own country.
I'm not in any way condoning Hitler, but humans are wierd alright.
