Newest secondhand car for £1000 with reasonable mileage?

What does age matter? Condition beats all in the shed stakes.
Krikkit is right though. I have a 15yo Rover 45 that cost <£600 with 105k on the clock and it has been pretty much bulletproof
My mate has a 16yo Audi A4 (2.8Q) that cost him £130. Not perfect (needed a new exhaust for a start!) but perfectly servicable.
Mum has a 9yo Proton Gen2 (£850). It is the newest and lowest mileage of the cars and the one I would least like to personally own.
At £1000 don't be a snob, just revel in the sheer sheddyness of it all

Why's that?
Really? You've been around 4 years and haven't spotted a recurring theme? You should go to the 'best newest cheapest car' thread, it's on it's 86th vol.

15 year old peugeot 306 over here, I prefer it to some of my friends more modern cars!
Buy on condition, not age. Getting something newer with fewer miles that cheap suggests that it is probably unwanted as "good" cars tend not to depreciate very rapidly.
Attempting to get something newer for a grand just for the sake of it being newer whilst admittedly not being as good just cries of stupidity to me.

Get this, it's got an 06 on the numberplate.

Autotrader currently lists a 2008 Perodua Kelisa with 50000 miles for £995. Same money gets you a 2006 PT Cruiser with 47500.
£800 gets you a 2007 Chevrolet Kalos with 53000.
You've got to trawl through a lot of Cat C/D writeoffs and a f
kload of "finance examples", but there are definitely cars out there sufficiently undesirable that a bag of sand will net you a seven year old low-mileage example.

How is £1k luxury money for a car? Especially given te cheapest new one is c£7k and at a punt the average new car price is c£20k (that's just a big std Golf nothing special at all and hardly high ranking in the Golf spec range either). Clearly the "best newest" would be taking the cheapest brand new car available and find one of those for £1k job done.
But to say expect a Audi A8 / 6 series BMW etc which I'd consider to be getting towards luxury these are c£100k cars when you'd spec them up new so be prepared for a very long wait to find one used if ever.
Can you buy an M/N reg A8 4.2 V8 for this sort of budget? Probably not.
Maybe you should look at XJS 3ltr Sport B reg territory
12 years old but checkout the mileage:

No I have removed original post, as trying to get an actual normal answer to my question seemed to hard for most of you to reply too without being sarcastic.
Ah.I think I see what's happening here.
It's the age old problem of someone posting a question on the internet & people posting an opinion that differs from the OP. These people are then "nasty" and "sarcastic" & typically the OP flounces.
OP - you ask for advice, get advice & then get all humpy because you don't agree with the advice. As you clearly know all the answers, just go & buy whatever car you like the most.
Dont get an old used German car! I just bought a 01 A3 1.8 with relatively low miles (117k) interior was perfect, body was pretty nice, drove great on the test drive and way home, then all hell broke loose and its the ultimate shed. a 1200 pound car...Im picking it up tomorrow from the garage where it had a new oil cooler installed (coolant/oil mixing) and almost every vacuum line on the engine replaced due to a poor idle. Its turning into the ultimate shed. If it needs much more Im just taking it to the scrap yard and starting over with a 1.nothing litre civic haha.

It's also not difficult to visit auto trader.co.uk and set the search criteria to £1000 max, any make, and look for newer vehicles.I think I see what's happening here.
