I'd rather an F40 also, but collectors that can justify making a purchase of these cars will already have an F40 no doubt.

You can pop out in the 911 and hardly be noticed.

Not sure that's a selling point for an £800k car?

The Amari ad looks like it's been written and put together by the chaps of Car Giant. Made me cringe reading that for a car worth close to a million pound.

F40 clearly but.... Why has someone fitted a modern head unit and speakers to it?!

I can't see the 2.7 selling for over £800K.....
isn't that a good 2 hundred grand over the going rate?

As for the OP's question- I'd rather the 911 to an F40....Ferrari are just too conspicuous for me....
how could I pop up the Spar shop for some Pringles in an F40 without feeling a lemon?

I drove a friend's 2.7RS 'lightweight' a couple of years back - a lovely example, but values were much lower at the time.

I thought it was brilliant. Detail perfect '70s simplicity, 975kg, gorgeous free revving engine with a nice 'bark', point and squirt handling, and an absolute joy to thread around country lanes.

Not sure you could use an F40 as easily

I had a 2.7RS for a weekend too. Agree with all your comments but brakes were woeful on the 2.7RS I drove. First time I hit the anchors thought I was going to stack it lol. Not driven one but F40 for me all day long.

Had a passenger ride in an F40. Rarely scared of cars but that rode albeit brief was one to remember.

The owner referred to the engine as the DEVIL when turbo kicked in. And indeed nothing can prepare you for the sheer brutality of the shove when they kick in. And as weird as it might be... The F40 is relatively compact by modern standards so you can use it on normal roads.

Sorry but would have to be F40 without a doubt. I had that car on my bedroom wall, not a 2.7 RS no matter how delicate and tasteful it might have been.

F40 has always been the ultimate dream.

I was once only 100K short but that figure has moved to 600k short now frown

If I was viewing cars today I would drive past the OP's original suggestion, save myself 25k, lose 30K miles and get a better variant, non cat non adjust smile

F40 of the two but I'd probably buy a 959 these days.

It'd be the F40 for me too, without doubt.

I appreciate the qualities of the 911 too of course.

But, who the hell fitted those speakers?? Shocking

As cars they are not fairly comparable - one's from the '70s the other's from the '90s. Any Porsche v Ferrari exercise is going to be fruitless - it's the practical/usable/conservative v the impractical/temporamental/extrovert

As a collectable, the 2.7RS was a significant point in Porsche's history, and probably the model that helped establish the 911 as an icon.

Personally, I think most everything is over valued at the moment, but if the best 2.7RS Tourings are at c.£600k, then the M471 'Sports' (aka lightweights), of which not many more than 100 are believed to have survived, £750k is probably the market rate - more for one with the right provenance.

It wasn't many years ago that you would see genuine RSs and F40s on track days - not now, most are cosseted away. But, to go out for a thrash on a sunny day, the RS would be the more accessible.

For that money I'd be ordering a 918 Spyder, with the added bonus of getting an option on a 991 RS and GT4.

Because if I was that wealthy I'd have them all.

I'm sure cmoose is right? Puts me in mind of that GT40 replica, Jodie Kidd was driving at Reims in that Classic Car programme, with Quentin whassisface - talk about cringe worthy presenting !! A real one is over a million, but you probably get 90% of the experience in the rep?
