When my 2011 C220 cdi was serviced last week at a main dealer it was pointed out that the door mirror indicator wasn't working. They quoted £160 to replace it!!! That sounds very expensive to me! Does anyone know if there is a much cheaper way fix it? I assume the quote is for a complete mirror unit.

Buy a replacement indicator light

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-C-CLASS-W204-20...

Ring the parts desk and ask them to supply the light unit only.

I had one go on my SL it was only about £20 from Mercedes, not as large as the C Class indicator but surprisingly reasonable.

Thanks for the advice but that's not what's fitted to mine. I think that's the earlier W204. Mine is a later 2011 facelift model so just has a small LED strip. Not sure if that makes a difference to what's available. I've had a look on ebay and can't see anything, not even a complete mirror unit. There are a couple of cars being broken though so I might get in touch with them. It would be nice to just replace the LED strip though.

Assuming it's actually broken... Maybe I should try removing the mirror and see if it's just a wiring/connection issue. Any idea if it's easy to remove? I assume this would mean taking the door card off and removing some kind of attachment from the inside? I'm handy enough with spanners...

The mirror is fairly easy to remove.
It splits in 2. There is a seam just below the mirror itself, as you would look out from the drivers side that you can lift with your thumb (adjust mirror so it is not going to get hit when you lift it off) then along the rear (led side) you will note a seam all the way along. Start at the outside edge with a pry tool and gently prise apart, then run your finger along the length while pulling up firmly and it will "pop" up away from the base. There is an electrical plug attached to the housing which will come away so you just have the cover and led. Led is removed by 2 torx. It is also glued to the housing (outside edge) so gently work this apart.
Keep in mind the whole unit is fairly robust so you can get away with a fair bit!
Check the plug is secure to the led connection, may just need a clean.
I have pics of the unit which i'll try & upload.

Thanks for that! Perfect advice!!! It might be a few weekends before I get a chance to attack it but I'll update with my progress when I do.

Should I be able to run a 12v feed into the led once its off to test it?

Yes i dont see why not although the built in plug will limit this.
Meant to add, when unpopping the first bottom bit put both thumbs on base of mirror glass and prise up underneath with your forefingers it will only come a few mil. Once you put back on reclip down with your thumbs - i didnt do this and i couldnt think what i hadnt done as i thought it was together but was still a few mil gap!! Takes no pressure to reclip back.
I dont know if you can extract the part no. from the pic for the led if req'd it may be the number stamped on it.
