My 9 year old daughter has just persuaded me to let her have minecraft on my gaming PC so she can play it on the 'big screen'. As it's half term and I'm away working for most of it, thought why not.

I've just watched her download it, install it, and start a multi-player session as if it's second nature. Some if it I did not understand. I feel old.

PS

If your kids play Minecraft have a listen to this....

My 6 year old loves it. It's amazing how fast they pick things up - she has made roller coasters out of mine carts and all sorts of zoos with cages for the animals and what-not. I like MC, but she knows more about it than me. smile

I need to give it another go. This might be a daft question, but aside from five minutes on the iPhone and seeing a few videos, I'm completely clueless. Is there an end-game, like, are there survival servers or death match servers or is it literally log in to a vast empty world, make a house and a sword and sit there?

Yep, my 8 year old can bash out a spiral staircase to the nether in about 30 seconds.

I lost a fight to s spider AND I had a diamond sword - I'm just glad he doesn't know what emancipation means or I'd be sacked such was his disgust.

Stampylongnose, Ihascupquakes and a host of other YouTube stars... At first we told him no headphones when he's on YouTube so I can keep an ear on his viewing, but that didn't last long - I rely on Google and Microsoft Family to keep an eye on things.

I think the Minecraft ones are a bit more family friendly. God forbid he ever watch Pewdiepie..

He's the pied piper of youtube. Absolutely coining it in with millions of kids watching his videos. He's probably teaching them all sorts of unsavoury stuff. hehe

To be fair he is about the only one that ensures his videos are safe for kids.

More than likely. I'm subbed to a few lesser known ones with half the subscribers and one has just bought a GTR from money generated from YT. Pretty certain the chap behind Syndicate Project just recently finished building his own house. If you have the numbers then its a much more lucrative thing than people think.

I tried my very best to get into Minecraft as I thought I was missing out on a part of something big.

Got very bored after half an hour of wondering around on my own, chopping trees down and digging holes in the ground.

Hi SeanyD - I was in a similar place. I followed the tutorial and quite enjoyed making a couple of basic items, however just wandering around was dull and I just can't seem to get it into it after a couple more tries. I guess its like lego, it's hardly like you or I (I'm 38 in a couple of weeks) are going to spend ages rummaging around a lego box building stuff and being highly entertained.. I think Minecraft requires a similar mentality for enjoyment.

I'd rather wander around in the Skyrim world or somewhere interesting.. but I'll give it a couple more goes.

I am 49 this year and spend too many hours on minecraft

There is so much you can do and make and I am always trying to figure out different ways to automate things.

My sons started me on it, the first night was very difficult but now I play more than them smile

It helps to have a good server to play on if you want to play with other players. I have a single player game I started a couple of years ago that I occasionally go back on but I have been to busy on the Pistonheads minecraft server lately.
