Masters/vets racing
Discussion
I have the privilege of turning 40 this year, which makes me eligible for Masters/Vets 40-44 (Masters C on BC). As I understand it, I'm eligible already even though I don't turn 40 until September.
I can happily hold my own in 2/3/4 races (I'm a 3rd at the moment), I'm happy with a fast race and usually in the mix but generally just miss points due to a weak sprint.
I'm sure there are a lot of very strong vets out there, but how does the racing compare in general?

The guy who sits next to me at work is Vets racing this year. He's very, very fit lol. From memory I think an average week is 3 x 80mile rides and he took the liberty of having a fit test + bespoke training plan for this season.
Similar standard to yourself I suspect, Cat 2/3.
You'll be fine

Less idiots taking huge risks and a faster average pace, less surging. If you do a National race you'll find some very good riders. I remember doing the road race and the guy who was at the sharp end of the World Masters Track Championship was in one of the groups.I can happily hold my own in 2/3/4 races (I'm a 3rd at the moment), I'm happy with a fast race and usually in the mix but generally just miss points due to a weak sprint.

Sounds good to me. I saw that the Nationals are essentially open to anyone, which surprised me. Must be quite a mix in the field.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
