Replacing boot badges.

The bonnet and boot badges on my car have both faded, so I intend to replace them.
I took the boot one off yesterday, and have a replacement to fit. It has fitting lugs, but they are in the wrong position so I need to remove them.
How best to attach to the car?
Double sided tape has been suggested, but surely that is not strong enough?
