SL Gearbox 350 AMG

Firstly as this is my first post I should say hello after returning to MB for the first time in a few years

I have recently purchased a 2013 350 AMG SL 7 speed auto and have been having a few issues with it , the main one is that the gearbox is very clunky from 5th into 4th when cold, all other gears are fine it is just this one ... the main dealer I bought the car from says that they are all like this and it is ' engine braking ' sadly I dont believe them as none of the other cars I drove had this ' feature ' Sadly I didnt drive this one before I bought it as I assumed from a main dealer all would be 100%

It does it in auto / sport and manual all exactly the same

Anyone have any ideas / does your car have the same issues or what was done to get this fixed ... Im running out of ideas with them as they have had several goes at fixing it now

Does it do it when warmed up? If not, unfortunately there is little they can do given the young age of the car. It is just something that happens with these gearboxes. I get a rough change between 2nd and 3rd when cold. Nothing helps it.

Thanks for this, sadly it is now only when cold, OK when hot ... it used to do it all the time but now after some laptop action it is OK when warmed up ...

I'm having exactly the same issues on my 15MY SL400 with the 5th-4th the worst too. It's been to the dealers twice already and it's a month old. By contrast I've driven an E400 and the gear changes are seamless...even when cold.

There seems to be an issue with my SL...it does it even when warm.

We have a SLK350 7 speed and haven't noticed any of this. Is it that noticeable or do you have to look for it?

Hmmm .... thanks for the mails , sorry to hear that a new 400 also has the same issue ... no you dont have to look for it, it is there every time it changes from 5 to 4 , a kind of lurch , cant miss it ...

I have another car being delivered tomorrow so that I can see if it is the same and make a decision on if to keep my one , at the moment Im thinking that getting my money back is the right choice as it is very annoying if they all do this and not something I could live with

My car only does it when it is cold now, it did do it all the time but after a ' gearbox and engine learn ' off a laptop I assume the issue is now only when cold ....
