Was at the opening day at Crail raceway. Weather was great and the place was packed! The vxr8 ran a 13.5@107, but I totally struggled of the line! No track prep at Crail just old Tarmac, so it was hard to get a good launch! Does anyone know if it's possible to map in launch control or even fit it from the newer vxr8's, I've no idea but would be cool right?

At least 1 person on here has fitted adjustable Racelogic traction control and was very happy with it. (edit: to a VXR8)

Can't remember who it was though (other than it wasn't me smile )

You'll always struggle, but better tyres will be the best option if you want to improve times

I also have it on mine. It does have a launch control function but I've never used it as I don't my transmission to explode. Keeps everything tidy getting off the line but it isn't cheap if all you want it for is drag racing.

If you want launch control what about something like a 2 step. What I have on the Monaro. Just cuts spark and keeps the revs where you set it.Just wire in a toggle switch and then connect it to the clutch switch. Plus point is they are only around $200.

Quick demo of mine after I installed it on the Monaro. Not got the chance to actually test it properly yet.

Well it makes a mighty fine noise!! Is it adjustable so you can fine tune it and where do I find it!

Yeah two dials, one sets rpm by 1000's the other in 100's. Takes seconds to adjust it. I picked mine up from Summit in the US when I ordered a few other bits.

If you dont have the traction in the first place, systems that offer a more aggressive launch arent going to help

Surely cutting the spark is giving you a smoother launch?

eta: Sorry, just realised from other posts, how this works. I thought it interrupted the spark until the vehicle was rolling.

Is that not just a Stutter box? Allows WOT setting of RPM whilst the clutch in in but as you let the clutch go you get full throttle. Not much use unless you have loads of grip or some sort of progressive power control.... They are used b&q bikes allot but they have shed loads of grip off the line even at WOT.

Yup as soon as you launch you get WOT. Its for setting launch rpm for consistency, I think with a turbo car it can help with building some boost on the line.

It's basically once the clutch is completely out it gives full rpm.

Until then, it's set to the limit. So if you just side step the clutch. It's not going to be much use. I was planning for some radials and wheels etc. Unfortunately I got the 2 step, then I had no income shortly after. So they have to wait until I find another job. Along with some other bits I'm after.

Didn't fancy buying everything as no idea how long I'll be out of work.

cheers guys, this might help for on the line but if it just goes to WOT straight after I don't think this will help me. I tried quite a few things for launching, I cant really get full throttle in 1st and shifting to 2nd I have to feather the throttle or it will completely light up 2nd, 3rd will still spin a bit but not to much, so I'm only going full throttle in 3rd onward. Played about with launching with TC on and off, my better times were with it turned off, I was smoother with it off as when it was on it would light up but then feel to restrictive when it kicked in. think better tires and practice will be the way forward.

Spinning in third, is this supercharged then?

Tyres will help, you could lower the pressures on the rear a touch but it's sidewall that you really want, so some more drag orientated tyres or just something grippier would help.

I don't know Crail, I suspect they don't have a 60ft timer? Your launch is where you'll lose the time (as you know) so as you said, practice is your main aim.

Don't bother launching with any revs either, start as if doing a fast traffic light launch and if it's gripping then build it up from there thumbup

Crail is very slippery compared to some unless it's a very good day. It's basically just like a normal average road surface...and fairly bumpy at that.
Crail do offer 60ft times and they will be abysmal.

And absolutely that's where you will gain the most ET, hence tyres and traction are everything.
You'll probably launch better doing as you would on the road, by trying to drive off smoothly rather than launching aggressively at all.

60ft times were 2.2 at best and 2.48 at worst. Don't know how that compares to what you would expect, probably a bit slow! reaction times seemed slow as well at 0.8 sec, only ever been on the strip twice so probably practice more than anything!!
no supercharger, just cam headers, exhaust etc

Anything under 2 seconds is quick for a manual car with road tyres. It shouldn't be spinning up between first and second, and definitely not between second and third.

The only place I've known that to happen with mine was at Rye- that place was literally a yard, not a drag strip!!!!!!!

That's actually pretty good, are you automatic ?

Reaction time doesnt count towards your ET

no, manual, and that's my problem getting off the line! just wasn't able to get the wheel spin under control in 1st and 2nd the way I would want to, most of the cars I was up against were 4 wheel drive and they just leaped of the line! Now I would expect that, but it was a huge difference!
