Hello,

Being a bit clueless about my Boxter S I was alarmed when yesterday when after pulling out of my road there was an noise that sounded as if something was dragging on the tarmac, further inspection (whilst moving) revealed no bits hanging off the car or anything looking out of place underneath. We returned home and by the time we got back the noise had graduated to a kind of catching/clunking noise. Suspecting the brake pad being stuck on we removed the wheel and inspected the brake pads which was not moving when the brake was applied. We gave it a poke and it seemed to free up so reattached the wheel and drove round the block. Problem seemed to be solved.

However, got in this morning and the noise has returned albeit much more quiet and of a more scrapey, clickly quality. It is constant and does not disappear when cruising.

When we drove it yesterday it had been in sat in the garage for 2 weeks unused whilst we were on holiday.

Any light shed would be great, going to take it to the garage tomorrow but have to get there first!

Thanks.

Had a similar noise from mine on 2 separate occasions. A small road chipping had caught between the caliper and drum. This has left score marks on the painted drum. Might be worth a look?

+1 same thing happened to me but it was more like a loud screeching sound, so as above might be worth checking.

i had this on my 911, transpired to be a broken spring in the hand break shoe assembly .

what happens if you jack the wheel up and turn the wheel with the hand break off ?

Yes, likely this. These use really crappy spring clips to secure the handbrake shoe. They often break or fall off causing the noise. Get it sorted out before it trashes the handbrake shoes and/or brake disc..

I am going to take it to the garage in the morning and its good to have a better idea of what it might be.
