OK so I was watching Secrets of the parking wardens on C4 last night. Seen a few post on here saying to ignore private tickets, but pay local authority ones. Parking I was the company being reported on last night. They seem to take people to court, contrary to many on pistonheads who claim these parking companies don't waste there time or money doing so. So who do you pay???

Unless you're trying to "steal" parking rights, surely the answer is "all of them"?

Or appeal the charge if you think a mistake has been made.

I've not paid private ones and nothing has ever come from it.

Also wouldn't pay certain local authorities. They have to send you a notice to owner before passing it to the TEC court. If you ever get an NTO just return to sender. They can't gontonthe TEC without having served you a legal notice. Sonic you've not had one as its been RTs it gets put in a pile to be written off sometime later. Not gospel but I know hat would work with certain Local authorities

Depends how valuable your credit rating is to you.

Don't ignore any of them. That used to be the answer, but since 2012 (I think) that's now the wrong thing to do.

If you're not in the wrong, or you are but the punishment being brought onto you is excessive (as with the likes of Parking Eye) then submit an appeal through POPLA. There is advice on MoneySavingExpert, and also in the Speed, Plod and Law forum on here (though be warned, as in typical PH fashion 25% try to help, the remaining 75% jump on their high-horses and start attempting to lecture you through the medium of dull-humour).

Do you often enter a credit agreement when parking?

No.

However, late payment of bills affects your credit rating, which would have an impact if someone wanted to enter a credit agreement for other goods and services.

Agreed with whats been posted above.

Don't ignore any of them. Pay the proper council ones and if you have been wrongly sent a parking invoice then go through the appeal process.

When the invoicing company refuse to back down (they all seem to do this) then take the POPLA code they give you and go to POPLA.

I've had this happen after a "site survey" was taken and found I wasn't on site. I was on site, and eating in the restaurant. Even producing the receipt didn't deter them!

When POPLA gets involves it cost the invoicing company a few quid and they need to put together a case to present to prove what they are saying. They didn't even bother turning up, which is SOP for them.

Late payment of a parking ticket does not affect your credit rating. However, a county court judgement (CCJ) caused by not paying a parking ticket will if it gets that far and is proven.

Adverse impact on a credit score will only be occur from a late payment if it is a credit sales agreement (CSA) e.g. loan, mortgage, credit card.
