Thinking of doing some Manthey suspension and engine upgrades on the GT3.

Just thought i'd ring my insurers to see if this puts the premium up, and they are saying that i will probably be not insurable, if i do the upgrades !!!!

I could just do it without telling them, but this may be risky in the event of a claim.

Anyone had the same problem, or know a way around it ??

Glenn

I've had no problem with Cornhill - I was honest and told them what I'd done and they have only loaded me (about 10%) for the engine upgrade because supposedly more power = more risks. No loading for suspension or RS rear wing etc.

You could take the view of just telling what they could find out, but personally I don't fancy the risk.

I also had a modified car with Privilege (brakes this time), and they were ok with this. So I think you should be able to shop around.

Certainly, the mods. will not make your car uninsurable - it's just a question of price!

Kind regards

PS By coincidence, I've just spoken with Rainer at Manthey about my car which is being serviced. They've tweaked the ECU program, and the car has just recorded 420 hp (up from 410). Always nice to get free horsepower!

Glenn,

I had the same problem when shoppping around for insurance. Many companies refused to insure unless the car was completely standard. Ended up going with Liverpool Victoria as they basically said I could do anything except change the cubic capacity. That said, I'm sure that someone posted they didn't have GT3's on their database!

I doubt you'll find it's free!

Fortunately it is - there was slight problem with the original program linked to the lambda sensors, and so Manthey have now fixed this but also found a slightly better map.

Admittedly, the ambient conditions, cold, dry are ideal for dyno testing, although their system is meant to adjust for environmental factors.

Glenn - forgot to mention that Manthey now do the RS style lip spoiler just above the engine air intake. Adds a few hp at speed. Just tempting you!!

Look up Bickley Insurance services. They insure my modified 993 RS. They loaded my premium in proportion with the rise in BHP. They also give you track day cover, although this costs £79 per track day.

They insure lots of GT3s, some modified, and they know what they are talking about.

Glen just ordered the same part from Cargraphic it has ram air effect works at over 120 kph: Manthey carbon version is EU600 compared to EU195 for fibre glass version from Cargraphic weighs nothing anyway. All you need to do is spray it Speed Yellow & stick it on. Carbon bonnet from the same supplier to Porsche quality weighs in at 7.2 kg £895.00 + vat finish is first class, doors at £1780.00 + vat for the pair 6.4 kg each. Dare I say any loss adjuster will not know what standard GT3 suspension looks like or what is basically the same exhaust system & intake, will they ever check the ECU? they will check to see if you have gone over your mileage thats all.

Definitely try a different insurer - mine simply required notification of any mods to the 911T, and these are erm, extensive ... but there was no premium hike. Zero, zilch, naff all, squat diddley.

Russell, that purchase wasn't as a result of the long straight at Bedford on Saturday i hope

Thing is, i had a long chat with Steve at JZ again yesterday, and there are even more odds on offer now, they are just finishing the development of carbon front and rear bumpers !!!

I just can't decide what to go for from it all

Glen they don't weigh much anyway it will be a waste of money, Porsche have not left any weight in the car look at the RS its just the bonnet & rear window that is the diffence between the RS & Mk2. If you do the Manthey suspension that will be better than the standard RS set up, and with the same engine output you will be flying. Yes I did feel a bit down on power down the straight but I have a cunning plan!
