Mate has been to see a Mercedes-Benz CLK 350 Avantgarde 2dr Tip Auto 3.5 circa 2006 (56 plate) car.

The battery was low, the dealer got it started and then took my mate for a drive.

But the soft-top roof would not shut properly on the car - car dealer said this would be fixed by tomorrow after they had charged the battery.
Apparently the battery being low affects roof closure ?

Not sure why that would be true - I would have thought the roof would either just work or not work , can't see why it would stop close to the end of what it's supposed to do - just because the battery is low.

Car is up for £6800, link here to the car :

(Hope it's ok to post the link to the car)

Anything in particluar to look out for on these ?

He's looking to spend up to 7.5k on a 4 seater convertible - so CLK / Audi A4 or BMW330 is what we have come up with so far.....

Thoughts....

Low voltage can affect roof operation-maybe ask to see the roof work properly once they have charged the battery before you part with any money.

Whilst on the subject of parting with money are you aware that the road tax on that car is £500pa?

Several years ago we bought a 2003 CLK covertible.
It was very low miles (lack of use is likely to have caused the problem).
It took main dealer (here in Poole) 3 goes to get roof working reliably (changed micro-switches and adjusted) which cost over £400 in total and we were very close to getting rid.
However, since it was sorted and used regularly we haven't had any more trouble with it.

When the battery goes flat the car will lose it's memory therefore the windows & roof need re setting not a big deal & can be done in around two minutes.

If your mate is buying a 350 £485 a year Road Tax he might as well get a 500 £500 per year & the difference in fuel is about 3mpg.

This one means £285 road tax

Or if it has to be a convertible,
