Good Morning,
I am looking for a set of new alloy wheels for the Monaro and I was wondering if there were any issues with introducing a new depth on the rear? As you know the standard 19" VXR alloys are 8" in width but I was wanting to step up to 9 maybe 10 depending on the wheels I choose and was curious if (in anyones experience) that would pose a problem for fitment? Just toying with ideas at the moment and it's always better to have all the information to hand
cheers.

cheers. It can cause issues going to be very dependant on offset and tyre choice. Depending on width you only have a few mm of clearance to play with. With rolling the arch, you can get a 10" on the back according to the American forums. Think they tend to run a 275 as a maximum though. Any wider and you really need to tub it. Loads of info on LS1GTO with offsets, sizes etc. To give you an idea of what will work. A lot more info over there and on here.
Not many of the Americans run 19s though, so they get away with arch clearance a bit that way presumably to do with shape of the tyre maybe?
Plus what the Americans consider 'clearance' often means 'only rubs when cornering or over bumps' or some other guff like that, a lot of US GTO owners have very different levels of tolerance compared to the first world
It's also worth seeing what the Aussies do, it's a domestic car over there and far better supported by the aftermarket. Do not for one second trust anything on ebay that says it fits the Monaro. The majority of those are simply based on the fact that it's a 5x120 bolt pattern and beyond that it's entirely luck (normally bad)

I am hoping to step up to the 20" wheel and the reason for the deeper rim on that back was to give it that nice concave depth look Plus what the Americans consider 'clearance' often means 'only rubs when cornering or over bumps' or some other guff like that, a lot of US GTO owners have very different levels of tolerance compared to the first world

It's just a visual thing so a 9" would be fine. I need to get this right however

There is one over here that I'm aware of with 20s on, you'll get a good chunk of redneck abuse on LS1GTO when you start asking about 20s, but there'll probably be a couple that will help you out

You can't go much further in as you foul the suspension components, and you can't go much further out as you foul the inner arch at about 2/3 compression. Rolling the arches is fun because they are double (triple?) lined right where you'd want to roll them, so you've got some fun on your hands
For much the same arch filling look you can just lower the car a bit, without the associated downsides of larger wheels, although naturally more likely to face problems with speed bumps, kerbs, slopes, bits of chewing gum on the road

I had a set of 20s on the GTS (Same arches etc) it was fitted with 8.5" wide Kaos rims with 255 tyres on and ran OK (Until a mate who was stripping them put one in the wrong acid bath - cant get another) but the rear arches have been rolled. If you get some rims I have a set of 255 MPS2 tyres nearly new.
It's like a roundabout.
20x9" on the front (you need coilovers though and I don't reciment!) and 20x10 on the rear with 285/25. The arches have to be rolled flat and the joint between the bumper and trailing edge of the arch needs to be cut back.
I'd suggest with 19 inch it would be easier as its the rolling dia that clips the bumper ache interface on the rear.
You just have to get the offsets accurate which is difficult unless your doing split rims. Others have tubbed because they wanted specific wheels but that's as pricy as a custom set of wheels!

Arggghh so many options. So really what we are saying is I can't get that sort of deep dish I was hoping for certainly not without work or alterations to the car. To be honest I would be happy to stay at 19", I was hoping to run a set of Vossen CV3 wheels which are lovely in my opinion.
The look I was hoping for (sorry it's an Audi
) with the deeper wheels on the rear.
