WIDE BODY SL600 V12

I started this project a few months ago with a plan just to do a tune any maybe some new wheels. This quickly changed and I was soon bitten by the V12 bug.
My premise now has become to try and maximize what I am working with while keeping the reliability and quality I expect from Mercedes. My design choices will not be to everybody's taste. I am going for the slightly outrageous super car concept and do not want to see another car looking the same.
This is my Mod list:
- Suhorovsky wide-body kit
- Eurocharged custom dyno ECU
- Eurocharged TCU upgrade
- larger billet turbo wheels
- port and polish turbo housing and manifold
- ceramic coat manifold
- Speedriven Inter cooler
- Speedriven Heat exchanger
- Speedriven larger transmission pan
- Speedriven billet idler pulleys
- Custom CAI with Amsoil filters
- Kleeman 3" catless downpipes
- Full 3" stainless exhaust with X-pipe
- 200cell sport cats
- SL65 Exhaust tips
- SL65 injectors
- Dads custom intercooler tank
- Brembo BBK 405mm front 380mm rear
- Stainless brake lines
- 2 Voltphreaks lithium batteries
- K-Mac camber bushings
- Lowering links
- Sprint booster
- Carlsson 1/10 Ultra Light 20" wheels
- Electric roof module ( operate while moving and by remote )
- Alpine iLX-007 car play 7"
- Custom base box and amp
- Custom interior with diamond stitch
I hope to reduce the overall weight by between 250 and 300lb.
I am currently about half way. The deadline is the 25th March so I can take it to VMAX. Fingers crossed

I like everything your doing (I wouldn't have gone for the black series as it makes the car to wide) because you seem to have carefully thought about it apart from one thing. The Wheels as the owner of a body shop I have done three of these conversions two looked okay but the way the wheels sat in the Arches (even with specially machined spacers) was a big giveaway that it wasn't a Black Series the third one had a custom set of wheels made with the right offsets so he had a nice deep concave it totally made the car.
Just to show I'm not hating here's my 2004 696bhp at the crank SL55 as you can see I gave it the SL63 faclift.

I totally agree. I purchased the wheels at the beginning before I decided to do the wide body.
I will be ordering some new wheels with correct offsets. These will work until then. After that I will have some incredibly expensive paper weights.
Part the reason I went with the wide body was to be able to run some much wider front tyres.
You have an SL so you know that when pushed it suffers from huge understeer that is built in from the factory. This is partly due to the overall design and partly for safety reasons. It is safer to push wide if you are going too fast than to spin.
Their is a few things you can do to counter this, all of which I am addressing. First is the wider front tyres, I am going for 305mm as used on the z28 in the USA which is giving great results.
Second would be adjust the camber to improve turn in.
The third is weight transfer, this is more difficult however the fiberglass bonnet and battery relocation to the boot will help.
The last would be aero, the added splitters and canards and a lowered stance at the front will go along way to solving the understeer.

Forgot to add the photos I fitted 9.0x19 at the front & 10x19 on the rear this was with standard arches.
I'd be interested to see how much BHP you get from the V12 compared to my V8 on two dynos the lowest was the 696bhp the other was 712bhp that was with an Ice packed intercooler & super unleaded.

The Fronts were 265's Rears 285, I used the standard Calipers with Iron Performance Friction Discs & Pads one of the best things I found that really helped was an Evans Waterless coolant change, with the heat exchanger I found this really helped control the under bonnet temperatures, with the diff & box having their own coolers they didn't cause me any problems.

Nice car ZX. The power levels are really difficult to predict as nobody has done a car with the same mods.
From what I have seen and read, I think 650WHP should be achievable on 98-99 fuel or around 800BHP. With VP109 maybe closer to 700WHP and a little over 850BHP
Torque numbers will be off the scale and will have to be limited, should be well over 1,200NM.
The gearbox will really be the limiting factor at the moment.

My Gearbox (the cooler helped) ran without fault for Two years quite a few Quarter Mile sessions I have since sold it & the new guy has had it for over a year now & no problems. I did think about a V12 but I really wasn't sure I didn't know enough about it

Cheers the Brabus air ride module really helped with the stance when parked it raised up slightly on start up so it wouldn't ground out on the front splitter it's the rims that always done it for me concave fronts & rears really made it stand out, they had to be ordered from the states but they knew what I was looking for & got the offset spot on Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
