The fiancée and I have been invited to a special 'VIP' event at a dealership near us this Saturday. We have had our special passes through the post and apparently, we can't get in without them. It's all glitzy and is supposed to be a few days where they will do deals on new and used cars like we have never seen before.

I wasn't too bothered about going as I can't see what all of the fuss is about. However, we are now attending. smile

Has anyone else been to these sort of events and actually got a good deal on a car? Or are they just a marketing ploy to get you through the door?

Thanks all.

I really cannot believe people can be easily suckered to spend some hours in a shop on the basis it is a "VIP event".

OP - Are you really a VIP? I mean real A list celebrity?

Had one of these a few weeks ago for Stuart Graham Honda in Crewe. Never been back there since I bought the car 4 years ago, no intention of doing so, but they still mail and ring all the time trying to flog a new Civic

Oh, c'mon. Be fair. There might also be some microwaved nibbles and cheap, warm white wine.

Care to elaborate how these VIP events offer anything out of the ordinary?

PS, cheap bubbly and rubbish canapes do not count.

We are after a new car, so if a deal can be done it's a win for their marketing strategy. smile

As I said, I'm not fussed as I'd prefer a project car or a nice old barge with a V engine configuration. However, my fiancée likes the idea of it so we'll go.

And as you have asked, yes I am a VIP - Very Idiotic Plonker. wobble

Might as well go if there's free food and drink. I would.

I'd wager - you can get a better deal outside of the "VIP event" - and doing a wee bit of phoning around.

I meant that your username was an appropriate description of one of these "VIP" events.

Ah, gotcha.

OP, those events can be seriously crowded as the dealership invites all and sundry. If you want a proper chance to snoop around some demonstrators, it's better to pick a quieter time IME.

Of course. But we may have free food to indulge in whilst fawning at the amazing goods on offer. smile

Pentagon? I got the same today - wouldn't surprise me if it's just a ploy.

Eat the food and try to shag the receptionist. Everyone's happy.
