from the MCN email for this week;

"TVR: it's a name familiar with fans of exotic performance cars. But very soon every motorcyclist will know it – the British firm is planning its own bike range! Read all about it in this week's MCN."

I got this email too. then I looked on the net and couldn't find anything else about it. Anyway, I think Ducati has the monopoly of exotic bikes which break down a lot....

Having owned a Duke, it's why I won't buy a TVR Wonderful, but heartbreaking too.

TVR are far to 'chav' for my liking... Go fast, no class and breakdown a lot...

If I wanted fast exotic it would be Italian all the way... On a number of fronts

I reckon the TVR bike thing is just a stunt, don't think it will ever see the light of day...

the rumour is going on in tvr general gassing forum too.
theres even been the suggestion that the russian guy will just buy a british bike firm to add to his collction.
names such as ccm and triumph.
However triumph is run privately as a hobby of john bloor, so he has no interest in selling it IMHO.
The factories etc are FAR bigger than TVR, I dont know the figures but that would suggest it would cost more than he bargained for anyway

Brilliant comment - may I quote you!?

And that's from a dedicated TVR-nut!!!!

I expect that the rumours are unfounded, or will turn out to be a distortion of the truth. The joint venture with the "TVR" boat, though, is a reality so it's not beyond the bounds of possibility.

Much as I love TVR though, I really doubt that I would consider buying two wheels from them....

...and, if this makes any sense, and having owned a Ducati for five years, I'd be complimentary to both makes by saying that a TVR car has some of the qualities that you find in a Ducati bike. Made by enthusiasts, vehicles with soul, need a respectful approach to driving them, but are really rewarding despite (or because of) a few quirks and a focused design!

A TVR bike - now that would be plastic, have more power than sense, need a fair bit of TLC and would bite in the wet. It'd look and sound gorgeous and be more infuriating than... ...well an infuriating thing. It'd probably be the sort of daft idea to sink a company like TVR too!!!!

maybe some truth in it.my eldest bro works for cosworth developments ansd was dropping hints at xmas that he has been asked to help develop an engine for a new sports bike from a car maker who has no history in bikes.from what he said the company wanted to make a lambghini(sp) bike.as in it'll cost 30k plus but be very exclusive.i couldn't press any other info from him but i do trust him as i've been privvy to info from him before.

You certainly can quote me!! It was meant kind of tongue in cheek...

I don't mind Griffs and Chimps, it is more the Tuscans and newer ones I don't like, or rather the drivers of them you see round my way! They all seem to be older clones of the old Uni ra-ra set - you know the ones - chinos, pi$$ catcher 'deck' shoes and blue or pink shirts with a nice sweaty draped over the shoulders! Us old crusties had great fun with those!

Anyway back to topic, nah I don;t think it will be produced or if it is it will be in such small numbers as to be irrelevant. Might be funny to test ride mind you!!!!

i have a TVR and a Ducati right now and i have had very few problems - and what i have had has been minor. i'd be really interested to see what happens with this story... MCN do get it right "sometimes".

They seem to be like everything which is highly tuned i.e. higher maintainence than "normal" cars. I know a few people with Dukes and they look after them well, don't treat them like your usual a-b shopping trolley and they are fine. Most of the breakdown stories seem to be from people who don't regularly check them over and just expect them to work. Having said that, I also know people who commute with them and don't have any problems at all because they look after them.

ARSE

It'll take a lot more than that to rattle me, I get stick for riding such an unreliable motorcycle from all my riding buddies. Mine must be Japanese as I can count the breakdown times on my ARSE!

GREAT BIKES, GREAT CARS! Each to their own and good luck to TVR, look forward to seeing you in the motoGP paddock in the future.

Read an article (Autocar?) a few years back about an Al Melling designed bike engine, V8, 1.5 litres, something like 230 bhp going in a prototype superbike.

"Norton Nemesis" rings a bell. Whatever though, sounded like a suitably mad bike that would suit a TVR badge!!
