Apologies if this is an idiotic question...

After putting my sticky fingers all over my lens because I thought the lens cap was on when it wasn't, I did a bit of research and have ordered a couple of filters - a UV, Skylight and Circular Polarising filter.

The UV filter will probably stay on the camera all the time, so what I wondered was whether the standard D70 lens cap would still attach to the filter, or whether I will need to take the filter off to put a lens cap on?

Also, does anyone have any lens cleaning advice? Reading about it seems to suggest that a lens pen is best, but some people say not to use these?

Thanks, and apologies again if these are stupid questions!

Good choice, replacing a filter is much cheaper if you drop the lens than replacing the whole lens. I never thought I'd see it in practice until Mrs CVP dropped her lens. I thought it was a goner but amazingly enough once I'd got the filter off all the rest of the lens was fine.

You should not have any problems clipping the lens cap to the filter.

Yep - the lens cap will definitely fit (I've a UV on permanently and it fits on that), also fits over the CirPol filter.

As far as cleaning goes - I have heard that a lens pen could possibly scratch the lens as no matter how soft the bristles, it's still moving around bits of debris. I'm not so sure whether someone like myself would notice something like that so I went for a squeezy-puff thing to get rid of the big bits, then a pen to do the rest.
