Commuting on the M6 near Walsall last night I went past a car on fire.
Got me thinkin, what causes fires these days? I guess years ago it was poor wiring or fuel leaks but nowadays a lot of these have been addressed.
Has anyone's car ever set on fire, recent or in years gone by and what was the cause?

Because they get hot?

I think a lot of fires now are oil related.

Lorry fires are quite often brake related.

A neighbour's car had some faulty wiring that shorted when he turned the key and caused a fire in the engine bay. I had a bucket of water handy and was able to put it out *, but the Ins Co wrote it off because it had melted a section of the main engine loom.
