I have a car for sale at the moment and although I am not new to selling cars, I am new to getting text messages to my phone from people (with names that some may associate with a certain west African country) asking me to EMAIL them back with info that's already in the advert.

I can assume this is a scam of some sorts can't I?

Im selling my 120d convertible and had a guy saying he worked abroad but was willing to send the full amount via paypal and have his agent collect...

I was sure it was a scam but I always thought western union was the one you couldn't trust but Paypal was trustworthy?

Chargebacks. Even PayPal cannot protect you when someone uses stolen credit card details to pay you.

I presume you would not be able to get your money in hand immediately, but if you did, Paypal would still be after you by whatever means possible including legal if the payment really wasn't.

But I suspect that if you did follow up the texts or emails what it would involve is YOU paying them very real money to their "shipping agent" and them paying you absolutely nothing (real) at all - just a fake Paypal email saying that they have. In inverse order but hey.
