Dear All,

I am a Porsche fan: my father has several 911s in the 70s, he had some 944 in the past and was often borrowing a friend’s 930 Turbo and 928 and he now owns a really nice 993 (my parents live in France, at the German border, where I grew up).

I live in London and own a 5L TVR Chimaera (5L V8): over 310 bph, lots of torque and only 1040 kgs. It out accelerates pretty much any Porsches except the recent turbos / RSs…

Anyway, the TVR has not been used much for the last 22 months as I have a 22 month old son and it’s now missing a seat (prior to this it was being used as weekend / holiday car as I commute on my Vespa). About a year ago I was considering selling it an buy a 964 / 993 / 928 or 968 and I voted against it, as I knew that I would miss the TVR terribly (the uniqueness / style / performances / driving experience and noise is just too good) so I have decided to keep it and buy an “interesting family / weekend car” in which I can go away with my mrs and our son (we have a family car for the “normal drives”) once I have the spare cash.

Anyway, I do not yet have the spare cash, but hopefully soon and I am more inclined to go for a 968 (good boot, room for 4, much cheaper that a 911, has ABS and airbags, good weight distribution for track use (if I was not going to use the TVR, etc…) but also know that after a while I would want to get more power out of it.

I know that one of the solutions is to put a supercharger.

So here comes my question: what would be the cost of a good supercharger installation on a 968 and what kind of power / torque / 0-60 would you get out of it…?

I am not looking to get the fastest 968 out there and still have a car that is enjoyable to drive, that my mrs can drive, but I would like to get more poke out of the already good 3L 4 pot engine…

Any information on the cost / set-up (make of the super charger, I think you gusy yur Rotex, righ?), company doing the installations, performances would be great.

Buy a 944 turbo for less money and fit a stage 2 tuning kit, job done.

There have been a few SC'ed 968s out there over the years, those who I know and trust when it comes to these cars will say exactly the same as boy, complete and utter waste of time and money.

Yep if the op fancies some pain it'd be easier to through himself down a steep flight of stairs. It's also a lot cheaper.

There was a guy on 968uk who supercharged his, it seemed to be his life's work.

If you want a fast 968 OP do what Porsche themselves did, build a 3.0 8V Turbo.

My pal is about to sell his dark metallic gray 968 Sport supercharged - drop me a PM if you want details. Think its chucking out about 320bhp.

If it's on the standard bottom end it's not unheard of for forced induction 968's to chuck out a rod too.
