This is a present for the missus and I want to buy the right items.

I've been looking at the Benro S8 video head but it would seem I can't get this as a complete tripod kit here in the UK.

Knowing very little about tripods I'm getting confused with the "bowl" and it's mounts.

So if I get just the head, to do this right I need a tripod with a bowl hole and a bowl mount????

and what tripod and bowl interface do I order. I would like to keep it all the same brand.

I've never heard of 'bowl' mount, but it says it has a 3/8" threaded mount which is the standard for a tripod.

The bowl is the part that levels the (video) camera. The threaded part is above it.

Any recommendations for a tripod and bowl level thing then????

I'm going to buy her the Benro but need a decent tripod. CF or Alu.

If it's a stills camera I head for Manfrotto but I can't comment on tripods for video cameras, other than Vinten.

Hey!! I've heard that these new-fangled lenses have something called VR (and I thought that was "vertical something" and to do with buses!)

But I have an old 55C (as you well know Mr Simpo) and it's a particularly nice solid piece of kit - is just the photographer that's a bit wobbly!

OP - the head is such a personal thing it's difficult to answer, but the fundamental is "as solid as possible" for the support! thumbup

These are actually very good (like most Novoflex gear).

To clarify I have sourced the head a Benro S8 I just don't understand this "Bowl" spec.

It would seem I need a tripod with a hole in the top and you then drop a bowl, half ball type levelling adapter in and attach the head to that.

So as there is no decent camera shops near where I live I'm at the mercy of the internet. As I havn't a clue how this all goes together.

AH! Sorry can't help with that bit. Is there a website somewhere that explains (or has a manual for) your Benbo?
