Halal pork - WTFlip?
Discussion
Over the last year or so the chinese restaurants and takeaways near me have started to make a big deal of selling Halal meat
There is a big Muslim customer base nearby and I understand why they wish to do this
Coincidentally or otherwise during this timeframe I have decided to eat a lot less Chinese food until tonight when I ended up at the local with some work mates and ordered the stir fried spicy pork
Obviously this seems a bit out of sorts for a Halal establishment and being of an uneducated atheist persuasion Im not sure of the small print:
Comments welcome purely on the subject of Halal pork
Cheers

Most likely a Halal substitute processed in the fashion of Ham such as turkey ham.
I've never quite understood this.Go to any breakfast buffet at a hotel in the Middle East and be confronted by Beef Bacon, Turkey Ham & Chicken Sausages.
Isn't this a bit like those "Barely Legal Teen" porno sites where there's a very small disclaimer saying "all our models are over 18" but they look like a bunch of 14 year olds?
So, really your a Peado but keeping it legal? Bit like Turkey ham then. You want to eat Pork but keeping it Halal.
Just for equal opportunity bashing, Quorn Mince falls into this category for the Veggies.
Or is that just me?

I forget the correct word[, but Pork cannot be made Halal, so it will be some chicken / turkey / mystery meat / lips & a
holes product.
There was a bit of a scandal in Singapore 5 or 6 years ago when a bunch of lads had some stickers made up stating "Halal Pork" with the Singapore Halal and Singapore Islamic crests on the stickers, looked very official and correct.
They then went to the NTUC supermarkets (equiv of Tesco / Sainsbury) all over Singapore and started putting these stickers on packets of pork mince and pork belly then moving them to the Halal Section ....
Took a few days before people figured out what had happened, but it was amazing how many Muslim families actually fell for it and purchased this new "Halal Pork" to try!
Caused quite a lot of local uproar mind you!

Halal only applies to meat which can be classed as Halal (Most birds (excluding things with hooked beaks or talons) and animals which don't have cloven 'feet' or chew the cud). Therefore Halal will only apply to turkey chicken, lamb etc. In theory anything non Halal should be prepared and cooked separately from anything Halal. In practice don't expect that to happen at the local chinky. So Halal pork can't exist.
Although there is a get out which (in theory) might allow a Muslim to eat pork.

If nothing else to eat? There's also supposed to be a passage that states that meat that has been slaughtered by readers and believers of the book, be it Jew or Christian, is ok for consumption by a Muslim.

My Muslim mate I worked with ate more bacon and pork sausages than anyone I've ever known!
