Swapping cars, one with private plate
Discussion
Looking at doing a car swap with someone, but their car has a private plate.
Only way I can see it happening is for them to put their plate on retention, get a standard plate for their car, then we swap, and they put their private plate back on the car.
Well, we could also swap before the plate change, then I could transfer it to them (I have no want for the plate, so won't be keeping it anyway). The obvious flaw is if they don't trust me to do this.
The first method costs £100 and will take a few weeks, the latter gets the swap done sooner, but will take them a while before they get the plate.
WWPHD?

DYOR, I get you
So, V317 makes it out we can do the transfer at the same time we do the swap. By making the seller the grantee, they hold the right to the plate once the car is mine.
They then get issued the new V5 with their private plate, get new plates made up and away they go. I then get the new V5 with the original plate, get new plates made up and away I go.
Correct?
