Hi Guys

Need a bit of advice.

Which make and type of tyre do you think would be best suited for a V8S?

Current size of tyres fit are 205 / 60 R15 91V

I want to keep the existing rims and tyre size (may consider slightly wider) but mindful that i dont want to change the rolling circumference of the existing tyres.

Thanks in anticipation of responses.

Was confused as I thought that there was a limited choice but after looking on mytyres.co.uk it seems there are hundreds of them......hence my question.

Tony, whatever you choose, just make sure you get V rated tyres by a reputable maker.

+ 1 for the Dunlop BluResponse by the way. Pretty good all round in all weathers and not bad on track.

Avoid NangKang Ditchfinders though.

Where others boldly go, those don't!
...... As proven in independent Barn Farm testing...... wink

One very noticeable change when I fitted Blueresponse to the Box was the reduction in tyre roar.

Great grip in both wet and dry.

Not sure they would hold up well on the track though.

Whether there's any/much choice depends on the speed rating you're looking at. The tyres originally fitted to the v8 were Z rated, which gives you a choice of Uniroyal Rainexpert (which is what I've got at the moment) or conti premiumcontact 2 and that's about it. Tons of choice in V as it's a fairly popular tyre size on more modern stuff it's just nobody puts 15" wheels on cars that'll do 150mph any more.

Hi Steve

Thanks for this, exactly what i was looking for.

I found some Yokohamo but the speed rating isnt there as you have poined out.

Have had Contis before but never had Uniroyal. Just need to get the best tyre i can as i never skimp on the only thing that keeps you between the road and a wall.....

Wouldnt feel safe doing 150+ in the car in any case but i want everything correct.

Wonder how insurance companies would view it if wrong speed ratings were fit?

V is 149 which is still slightly higher than the maximum speed of the car.

I wouldn't consider it to be unsafe to fit V rated tyres unless you're planning on seeing just how fast it'll go. You're probably best off telling your insurance company so they can't say "you didn't tell us about..." if you claim but I can't see them caring very much.

You're far better off having a tyre you're happy with that performs well at the speeds you drive at than having a bit more of a safety margin at over double the speed limit. I don't think I've ever been over 130 anyway.

I agree a V should be fine but speed rating is not just about max speed, read somewhere it also presumes a car that is driven fast will accelerate faster, corner faster, brake harder etc?

Will a S (v6 engine) do 150, wrong tyre rating won't pass MOT or should not pass, also no insurance if wrong tyres fitted, they will look.

Just spoken to insurance company and been told they are ok with V rated tyres, in fact they say that any tyre can be fit so long as it is road legal.

They go on to say that any other specifications are irrelevant with regards to my insurance!

Now means that i can reconsider the Yokohamas.....

Well, my Austin & Dunlop BluResponse got me home safely yesterday despite awful blizzard conditions on the Cat & Fiddle Pass and the steep back lanes nearby.

See my post on the TVR Events & Meetings section of PH, 'High Peak TVRCC Meet Feb 22nd.

Thanks be to Dunlop bow ( and Austin of course! )

They should be fine for track and dry (warm) day runs.

Car only being used on dry summer days - never bought it for all weather use.

Will just have to be careful in wet if caught out but should be ok.........I hope driving
