Diff maintenance?
Discussion
Should be getting the diff out of the chassis today. I was wondering, apart from changing the oil, is there anything else to be done/renewed on the unit whilst it is out of the car?
Obviously I will be cleaning it up and painting it. Or shot blast and powder coat if that is possible..
Thanks

How many miles has it seen? It may be worth changing the input and output oil seals. Also worth changing the UJ's on the propshaft, if you do, don't buy cheap Chinese copy UJ's
44kAre the UJs a landy part? £35.00 a pop from TVR stockists seems a bit steep to me.

Just my opinion, but unless I could see a fault with the U/J I wouldn't replace them, they run pretty straight. I'm pretty tight but I thought £35 was ok. Though I would look more at the CV joints and at the least clean regrease and fit new boots. I'd have thought with just 40,000 miles the diff should still be good
The reason TVR fitted UJs with grease nipples is because they are situated very close to the hot exhaust. There is a service requirement to grease both on major services but this step is missed by several TVR service centres. Mine were greased by me every other year since I bought the car at 3yrs old and 12k miles. Now at 60k miles I removed the well serviced propshaft to find the UJs were very loose. The new UJs felt so much better and considering all the energy of the engine is fed through them, I think replacing them makes sense. It's a simple job, why not do it if the propshaft is off

False economy not too really, with only another 20,000 miles until your at Bobfathers mileage, a well satifying job

My 'to do' list just got longer... :| Loving working on her in such a 'naked' state though.
