I've the wife's scooter for sale on gumtree for £1200, i got a phone call from some guy in London offering me "1 grand" unseen. Apparently he's prepared to drive from london to belfast, stick it in the back of his volkswagon sharan and he'll collect it tomorrow. I presume he's going to phone back later and tell me he'll send the payment electronically, and either overpay and i give the difference to whoever picks it up or the payment will be reversed?
Bye bye scooter, bye bye money?
It's a common enough scooter probably hundreds for sale nearer to him and his mobile number is actually an internet phone (so he tells me).

Tell him that he's welcome to the scooter but it's cash only, nothing else will be accepted.

It may be as simple as he's visiting the area anyway.

I had a guy buy my broken (burnt-out piston) Gilera runner unseen in a similar way.

He offered me £200 cash, drove down from London and stuck it in the back of his van and was gone in about 2 mins. Nothing dodgy.

Scooters in London are expensive, so dealers are keen to get stock from elsewhere (even scrap for spares/repairs).

He turns up with the cash, I don't see a problem with it.

He would have to drive from London to Belfast via an expensive ferry which would probably make it more expemsive than buying locally even at inflated london prices?

Maybe he doesn't know where Belfast is? Assumes it's "up north" somewhere!

I did tell him I was in Northern Ireland and point out he'd have to get a ferry across, No further contact from him so he was possibly Legit and realised afterwards it wouldn't be financially viable?
