Overfinch 580S
Discussion
There is one of these in the classifieds. It appears you could class this as the last of the "proper" OF with proper engine work - in this case a rebored 4.4 BMW V8.
Yes a stock 4.2 SC is faster and factory but in some ways that isn't the point.
I really rather like the look of it and it appeals to my inner "differentness" radar but consensus of opinion seems to be that the engine is a very expensive accident waiting to happen.
Anyone had one?

Yep I had one
Engine was I think fairly standard 4.4 but with deeper exhaust.
The gearbox wouldn't allow much tuning at the time, it was actually slower than the 630 r corvette engined previous but handled better.
Performance was similar to a standard vogue so nothing startling, check all the body kit parts as they were bespoke to overfinch and will most probably be expensive to replace, whereas all electrics and engine parts should be standard Lro

I stand corrected after reading the review it was indeed bored out to 5.0 litres.
It wasn't fast per se but it did come with black badges when all the others (bar supercharged) were green.!!
I liked it at the time, just don't think its special enough now, saxtons always have plenty of overfinch cars online but I haven't heard much good about them, although I have never personally used them
They appear blingy now more so than at the time

Cheers Charlie. A 4.2 or 5 L SC is a much better idea but sort of missing the point. I would be a bit worried about the crank as that's the clever bit (according to Clarkson anyway!) but it seems to fail, no idea why though.
This one seems to have all the OF body kit which is good. There is another advertised but that has different body parts.
I may be down where its is advertised soon so I may take a look.

I do remember the electrics being suspect, as with all of them of that age. New alternator and battery sorted it, but overfinch didn't want to know at the time, even tho it was under their warranty.
385bhp from 5.0 isn't stressed, all depends on how often you change cars and how easy it will be to move on.
If you do get it I found nfu mutual great for the insurance, well worth ago as other insurers wouldn't touch them
