I have 2 normal insurance policies for cars I own privately. I'm about to add a company car as a director of my ltd company. Can I add it to my existing policies? Or do I need specific business insurance?

It won't be like what other bigger companies do with fleet policies, the company is small and only me with the car. Do you put the legal owner as the ltd company and the registered keeper as me to keep it on a normal private policy? Any downsides or cost implications to doing this?

Thanks

You can have the ltd company on the V5 as the registered keeper.

So just let the insurance company know that the car is owned and registered to a business, and add business class, then job done.

Does the company also have to be the registered keeper? Won't I mess up my NCB this way. My wife is on a company fleet policy and has no transferable NCB so I don't really want to get into that.

Was hoping I could keep myself as registered keeper

The car is electric so co car tax is ok

I have been in the same position, just put my name on the V5 & insure as usual. All my cars have class 1 business use so just as normal.

Insure it in your name with the company listed as the registered keeper, never an issue. make sure to add business use to the policy.

A car registered in a Limited companies name can be a problem with some Insurers irrespective of whether you're the director of said company.

I've never had any problems, currently insured with LV.

Some insurers are fine with it, and others aren't.

NCB is usually per car. Some companies will mirror it onto other cars but even then that may be messed up if your not the owner / RK of the car.

You'll need to talk to the insurer as the online systems assume you're the owner/RK.

Stick it in confused etc and never a shortage of quotes returned.
