My Chimaera smells....

I haven't used mine recently, but at least I have worked out why it smells - rats nesting in the boot! Any idea how to get rid of the revolting smell?

BTW not ideal TVR conditions here in Essex - just been a bit sideways in the ice. Be careful out there!

I was in my Volvo garage the other day and they had two cars in that had been written off by Insurance companies because of rodent infestation,seems its a very common problem with all the food remains that are left in the modern car

New carpets. Get a set from a breakers and spend half a day with some glue and it's sorted!

Interested to know how they got into the boot in the first place.....

Sadly Daz is correct - I live in the country and have seen rats trundling across my current driveway, and have found rat poo on top of the engine in our family Volvo (what is it about Volvos and rats?).
Car alarms go off regularly in the middle of the night as the vermin go looking for warmth/food, but the worst I have had so far in the Chimaera was mice two years ago at our old home, when I had stables right next to the house. The little buggers chewed their way through the wiring in the lower dash (radio section) and centre tunnel areas. It took an entire day's work by Alex (bless his willing cotton socks) to strip it all out and re-solder all the damage.

Not a clue how they got in! All the offending stuff taken out and boot carpet shampooed - smell is certainly less - will check next week.

Still it made me feel very guilty so I cleaned the car inside and out, and swept the garage. Must use the car more.....

The family Audi had its wiring destroyed by rats a few years back. Horrible things.

Plug in ultrasonic alarms and 2 cats seem to have avoided anything nasty happening in my garage so far.

+1 for the ultrasonic alarms - my cat's bloody useless on the mousing front, although she does do a neat line in reminding late evening party guests that they really need to be somewhere more remote from her litter tray.....
