Morning chaps, my apologies for this being in the general stuff section, my phone is playing silly buggers and wont load the forums list page.

Just this morning i got in the car after working the night shift circa 07:30 and the car decided to run like a bag of bolts :-s

I've found two vids on the web that sound the same but cant seem to find what the issue actually was with them as the comments bits weren't answered on them by the vid posters.

Here are the vids..

took the car for a 15 miles drive once i finished de-icing it and it still didn't make a difference.

The noise sounds pretty dodgy to me so i'm not going to fire it up unless i have to move it today, but on the off-chance, do any of you good folks have any advice and/or info for me to get it sorted? I'm happy with the spanners so if it's just something that needs replacing it son't be an issue :-)

Cheers in advance, John

The first one sounds like an air leak, the second sounds like a belt is too tight but had a hiss which would also make me think air leak. Check hoses for splits or fall offs, I cant work out from those videos if it's the vacuum hoses from the brake servo or something else, it seems to get louder from somewhere near the MAF but that could just be where the mic on the camera/phone is

There's a breather hose that attaches to the rear of the upper inlet manifold. You can get to it if you put your hand right round the back. They're notorious for splitting. It's highly likely to be this.

This ^

Same thing happened to mine, it's a cheap fix and not a major issue.

cheers for the help fellas :-) turns out it was purely the upper inlet manifold rear LH air pipe that had popped its clogs.

£42 later, and a new pipe fitted. only awkward part was taking off the inlet pipe to get some hand space and i have mong feelers and couldn't get them in easily to get a good grip on the old knackered pipe. lol

for reference for anyone else suffering the same problem (seemingly one of the few ST220 ones):

Pipe is manufacturer part number 2S7E-6C658-BA, this is the one to ask for :-)

Bit dear for what it is but the new one seems well constructed and a spot on fit so can't complain.

idles better than ever now (probably always had a slight split since i bought the car i bet), and revs are back to their lovely sounding selves again :-)

Tools required are just a screwdriver to undo the air filter upper housing, some pliers to undo the pipe clips. - to check for any codes still stored and to clear them from the ecu, u ised the Torque app on android, and an OBD2 reader from amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004KL0I9I?psc=...

As they say... Job Jobbed Satis ;-)
