Hi guys, I'm looking at a car at London Sports Cars tomorrow - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

I wondered whether anyone was familiar with the dealer and if so, what experiences have been like?

Any advice appreciated.

Some nice cars, but all the pictures look like they're taken on a residential road? Just saying.

I work in Canary Wharf and I've never heard of them. The website says they are down by Cross Harbour DLR station, which is the Isle of Dogs (where the old London Arena used to be).

If it were later in the week i'd offer to walk down and take a look if you had an address.

Thanks for the offer, I'm popping over to see them tomorrow and check the car out.

The photo's seem to be taken in a commercial area so it doesn't look like they have a showroom as such, maybe a storage unit?

Are these the guys who also have a prestige car rental business as well, I think I recognise the location but can't remember the name.

Doesn't mention car hire on their website, so likely not them.

Wits about you and also think about whether it's worth buying through them or not.

Basically they seem to have close to no setup at all and openly advertise that they use a third party warranty service, so if you have any issues you will immediately get fobbed off. And will accept commission sales (suspect most will be).

I.e. if you are paying more because you believe that dealers offer some security, well in this case they seem to offer nothing better than you can DIY by going private and taking out a warranty yourself.

It doesn't really mention anything at all on their website, to be fair?

The car seems competetively priced (assuming he is willing to factor in that a service is due) and I was planning on asking him to discount the cost of warranty so I can get a main dealer warranty on it.

To be honest, either private cars are over priced, or the independent dealer cars don't seem to be priced much if any more than private cars.

Black DB9s seem few and far between too, and I really want a black one. The sports pack is a nice bonus too.... all assuming the car is straigh!

Are they trying to avoid thefts or deliberately being shady when they don't put their full post code anywhere on their website?
Genuine Question for people's thoughts, not specifically aimed at this dealer.

I agree with you there, if it's legit and priced right I would not care who I bought a car off be it the Pope or Bin Laden himself may Allah yada yada yada...

Just be careful.

I can imagine that if they are a unit in Canary Wharf, it's probably not a very nice area and would be an easy target if they have a unit full of nice cars.

Makes sense not to put the location but can't say for sure that is a reason... he was happy to let me go over and see/drive the car so hopefully nothing shady.

It's not 'in' Canary Wharf, there are no 'units' there, just offices!

It's in the Isle of Dogs, which is a bit of a hole.

Ah I see, I expect Canary Wharf sounds a lot better! I recall that I once parked near the Audi dealership in Canary Wharf and it's not the nicest of areas in the back streets as it is (other than the actual new offices and hotels in the main part).

It looks to be owned by a Michael Dutton who also appears to run www.tenantbonds.com

The Aston and the Audi are photographed in an established residential development on the Isle of Dogs - near (ish) to Crossharbour. I've never seen that sign on the wall, though I haven't been into that particular street for a few weeks, so maybe it's a recent addition. There are no trade garage or commercial sites in that development - there are shops but I count that as a different type of commercial.
The Bentley appears to be photographed somewhere else.
An "unusual" business model in my opinion.

Did they get a bulk buy discount on black wheel paint?

OK so:

The car has no service book. It had covered about 3k miles between 2009 and 2014 - no service inbetween and no MOT done either. So impossible to verify the mileage in any way.

Cosmetically looked fine - wheels need a refurb, 3 minor dings in the body... however the paint is VERY dull.

Car was last serviced Jan 2004 so needs a service and plugs.

Chap told me originally that he sourced it via Stratstone, quickly backtracked when I told him my sister works there and won't be difficult to track the car back... he then said he got it via a buyer called Jardine Group who he THINKS got it from Stratstone.

When I asked him about the lack of service book, he commented on the former owner saying that's how he got it - but claims he got the car through a buyer, not from the former owner...

All in all, probably enough to put me off spending any money on a check.
