External Air Temp Sensor

I am going to fit a (cheapish) thermometer to show external temp.

Has any one done this ?

Can anyone suggest a location for the sensor and a route for the wire from the dash ?

( I know there is a light to show near freezing, but I want something a little more accurate)

Pretty sure the standard ice detector sensor is fitted in a small cutout in the undertray under the nose.

Really, I wondered where it was.

I always keep an eye on the outside temperature when driving modern cars and as most of our country lanes evade the grit trucks, its a useful thing.

I also have the red/yellow, (or is it green) light which is useful but an accurate temperature display would be useful.
As long as it doesn't look like something from Robert Dyas.

I have ordered a device on the bay. It may only be a temporary fitment.

I have got used to seeing external temp on my modern (ish) car, and I now find it annoying missing information when monitoring things on the Tiv

Easiest routing would probably be to hide the cable under the air intake pipe on the passenger side, and then pop the wire through the windscreen wiper motor wiring grommet to get it behind the dash

It doesn't look too bad (bit cheap maybe - but then again it was)

I haven't permanently wired it in, but I may do.

The external sensor wire is a bit short (bit over a meter maybe 1.5 m)

Power cable is taken and run under the door rubber surround and the across under the door card so it can plug into the cigar lighter.
External sensor cable also runs under the door rubber and then stuck onto the concealed top door hinge.

Its a bit plasticky, but seems to do what it says it will, and I checked it against a mercury thermometer and its accurate.

£8.19 delivered so can't complain.

It seems to monitor External temp much quicker than internal, but that is more important anyway.

Switched to blue colour is better than orange as with the orange you see the non activated parts of the figures.

Oh by the way, I had to file part of the mtg pedestal away to allow the ball joint to move enough to allow mtg as shown. (Stuck to vertical dashboard) Wasn't hard to do !
