Need New Brake Pads and Disks!! Any Recommendations?
Discussion
Hi Guys,
So i have an MX-5 1.6l Mk2.5 2004 Euphonic with the big brakes.
I have a link here to the disks i have (note even though its a 1.6, being the euphonic model it does have the big brakes)
http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/front-discs-genuine-mazd...
I am looking for some new pads. Whatever is on there at the moment is shocking and sequel like mad (bought the car like this).
I need the pads mostly for road use however would also like to hit a few track days at some point.
I need them to be good at both jobs but my god if they squeal i will burn them.
Id also like to upgrade the disks too and get some braided brake lines so any suggestions on that too would be helpful.
Thanks Guys, look forward to hearing from ya!!

Mintex 1144s are good, if rather dusty.
Do you know if there are any reports of squeaking during road use?yonex said:
I favour Pagid pads these days, they last well and (depending on the compound) are quite light on discs. They aren't the cheapest out there but are consistently high quality.
Agree with this.At the risk of sounding like an EBC bandwagon jumper; I've had two sets (on different cars) and both have been pants. Stupid amounts of dust, not great bite and they fade quite quickly.
My car had Greenstuff pads on it when I bought it and frankly they were dangerous. In the dry, I really struggled to apply enough pedal pressure to lock the wheels up. Admittedly that was eight years ago, the compound has probably changed since then.
Conversely, I've found EBC's discs to be very good for the money.

I would say YellowStuff pads sound like what you need.
RedStuff would be too extreme if you only do the occasional track day.
Yellow is more extreme than Red. EBC's range ascends as follows:RedStuff would be too extreme if you only do the occasional track day.
Green: "normal" road, though universally thought of as pretty poor
Red: fast road / occasional track use, I've found ample for track days in a low power car
Yellow: very fast road / more serious track use, a bit worse bite when cold, very hard-wearing
Blue: track day and short race use, deliberately softer than Yellow so they wear out before discs
Orange: full race / endurance spec
Ferodo's DS3000 seems pretty highly thought of. I've not tried them myself as they're not cheap, but they get mentioned alongside Carbone Lorraine RC6 and other more "exotic" top-end pads.
It depends on your budget, really. I've found EBC Redstuff an excellent all-round pad which isn't awkward for everyday use, but that stands up very well to hard use. Most people seem to try Greenstuff and then knock EBC's whole range, but my experience has been good. My E36 328i had new "normal" Bosch pads on the back, and fairly worn similar in the front for its first track day. I nuked the fronts in no time at all, so replaced them with Redstuff. The rears had seemed OK so I left them alone, but after one session with the Redstuff in the front, the rears were pouring smoke
seems the bar had been raised somewhat. Now it runs Red all round and seems unshakeable.

The DS3000 are actually illegal for road use. The DS2500 are legal. There is a chart of temperatures but it means nothing to me. What can you make of this? http://www.ferodoracing.com/products/car-racing/ra...It depends on your budget, really. Do godspeed do their kevlar pads to fit the mx5? i had them all round on my scoob and they were great for road use, no squealing or t
tting about and stopped pretty well.
I only mention them due to similarities in age/japaneseness/brake appallingness between the mx5 and the scoob
Something i could look into!
