Are V8V's difficult to sell?
Discussion
They are all Price / Spec / Mileage Sensitive, along with the all important condition!
When I looked I saw 4 cars that look perfect on the advert, but when I went to view the condition of the paintwork was poor, or the guy has said premium audio and it was basic etc etc.
This time of year also doesn't help!
Remember everyone wants different things, I wanted Tungsten with black leather, where as I know someone who bought a black car with red leather etc....
To be honest once you have bought it you will not want to sell it anyway!

Cars are very dependent on these factors, and ones that don't sell are overpriced. Most private sellers tend to think their car is worth more than it is. I have also been to see cars (not just AMs) where there simply has been no effort in making it presentable. This from both dealers and private sales!
There are certain nameless dealers who I wouldn't touch with a barge pole and have a reputation for selling at the tattier end of the market. Personally I would accept a slight premium on the price if the car was flawless when I went to see it. Some dealers, and indeed, private sales, seem to appreciate that.
If people are serious about selling a car, then they will make an effort and it will sell.

There must be reasonable demand for 4.7 cars, because the dealer advertised prices for the early cars, have been almost unchanged for two years. Annual Vantage production numbers were higher during the 4.3 era, but of course they are gradually becoming affordable to more buyers.
The cars you noticed 'sticking', might not have the best Specification, Mileage, or Condition, but it could just be no one is looking for that car at the time.
My 4.7 lost nothing really in 18 months, I whacked 10k of mileage on it as well. When I made the purchase it had been for sale for a few months, I had no bother with the part-ex, it was back on AM's website within a week up for more than I paid..... sold again within a week or two. Its the time of the year I'd guess.
There is definitely a summer spike.
Just buy the thing; the world could be out of oil tomorrow in which case we're all screwed.

Just my two penneth worth...
I am currently looking for a V8 vantage. I thought i found a nice little example, private, excellent price but the seller pulled out on me one day before. He did give some personal reasons but did seem rather nervous about the transaction. £30k plus private transactions can be pretty stressful to some people and a lot of people may not have the finances to get credit and hence will rely on dealer PCP packages to make it affordable.
Private selling for that sort of value is going to be very hard, no mattter what vehicle. If you do prefer to private sell rather than part ex (normally thousands better off), then you need to pick the right spec car. right colour, SH, spec - fully loaded basically. Oh, and keep it perfect condition. Of course, if you intend to keep the car none of this really matters and you should buy what you want.
I have never failed to sell a car private. i recently sold my E92 M3 within 3 days of advertising it on here. A well written advert, an honest well specced car with meticulous paper work, and a young enthusiastic buyer means it sold.
However, i am leaning back towards not going private and sucking up the premium that a main dealer will charge. That way, i know they wont pull out on me when i arrange all the finances and in the event something does go wrong, i can throw it back at them.
Just do your research on what is desirable, keep it clean and resale you should be no worse off than anyone else.

The question you need to ask is, would you buy a £30k+ Aston Martin privately, when there are hundreds in the dealers, all with 12 month warranties?
Selling it privately, yes, I expect mine to be very hard to sell.
Selling it back to the dealer, not a problem, but just be prepared to take a knock, unless you're trading up.
No modern car makes you money, and Vantage's have almost lost most their value, so what ever happens, it won't be too bad. You could do a lot worst with a new BMW for example.

I am considering changing my 10 plate 4.7 and had assumed that it would be almost impossible to sell privately. Do people think it's worth trying for a few weeks rather than taking the low ball trade offer I'll get for it? I didn't think anybody would consider purchasing a car like this other than from a main dealer.
I purchased and sold my Vantage privately (with a three year gap in the two transactions!). I would say, easy to sell if priced correctly for the market. There are dealers still trying to sell pre-2007 MY cars for silly money. I sold my 2007 MY for £32k - it sold in a couple of weeks, to the first caller, in November - because it was well cared for, I didn't skimp on servicing / consumables and priced it sensibly.

I would only buy privately........I'd get a better newer car with less mileage for less money than at a dealer.....In fact that's exactly what I did....early 2011 I paid £37k for a 12000 mile V8V that was the exact spec I was after...
Late 2013 I sold the same car privately with 25000 miles on it for £32.5k..... First person to see it bought it

Thanks for all the input, some good comments. The car I am considering is a 2010 manual all black 4.7 roadster with a really good spec, sub 20k mileage with a new clutch, for sale at an AM dealer, what would you expect to pay?
Got to say a bit of a guess but somewhere around £55K? Have you got the book to check MY changes? Not a lot more money might get a slightly younger car with all the dynamic updates and Garmin Nav etc. but if this car is the right spec for you then fine. New clutch good but early miles in my opinion so check the car carefully for signs of heavy use. As for are they difficult to sell, I tend only to track the V8V S versions and after the winter lull a lot of these are moving now from the dealers and stock levels going down.

If the car happens to be the one at £57,991, I don't think I saw Premium Audio on the options list.
Would you miss that?
Many owners would.

How important is the premium audio, is the standard system not good?
James,
The Premium Audio is regarded by many as being superb. It is a 700 watt Alpine system. Consequently, that option does increase the saleability of Astons.
The 160 watt system is, well OK. It is not practical or cheap, to upgrade later.
If you are looking for a black Vantage, then you have the widest choice of Pre-owned cars. So, you should not have to wait long to find a car, that is exactly right for you.
Good luck, Jon.
Thanks for an interesting topic, I've sadly got to sell my beautiful V8V roadster after only 5 months of ownership, moving to Singapore in April.... Just to remind us all how special these cars are, during taking the pictures for the ad' a number of people wandered over to take pictures and ask us what we were doing (was it a magazine shoot?!?). The only car I've ever owned to demand such attention. I went to the factory Monday to see the manufacturing line, if you haven't done so, may I recommend that you all do. Simply awesome... I now know why mine even after 6 years doesn't make one squeak!
I'm back in 3 years and I'm having another!!! Haha
