TVR to Mustang
Discussion
Hi guys,
I have a Chimaera 4.0 (1999) which I love. Trouble is I have gone from covering 10,000 miles per year to barely 1,500. The arrival of my first baby has meant even less TVR time and no holidays in the TVR to France, as we used to...
I am now seriously considering selling my P&J and putting down a deposit for the new Mustang... I guess I can get about £12-15k for my Chimaera, it is in mint condition.
Has anyone else made this switch, will I regret it, should I just keep the TVR and have the occasional spin? I figure with the Mustang I can use it as a practical daily drive and take the family out in it, but still have a V8 to keep me happy. Depreciation may not to be too bad at first due to demand?
I feel I need some wise words from the wisdom rich TVR groupies.

It very much comes down to your own assessment of the need for your Chim, whether you are really going to drive it (as it should be) and whether you can afford to have it sitting doing limited mileage.
I owned both a Tuscan and a (admittedly 2005) GT Convertible V8 Mustang side by side for over 5 yrs (Mustang went in 2010 after 11 happy years of ownership). They are both very different cars, and whilst I sense from reviews the Mustang has come a long way indeed, I still cannot seeing it coming close to matching the visceral and raw drivers experience the TVR provides. I am of course comparing my experiences of a Sp6 car with a V8 Mustang, but nonetheless. The ability to use the Mustang as a family car could well therefore swing it and you cannot compare the Chim in this respect.

Thanks for the feedback. The TVR was never a practical choice, just my dream car. I am really pleased to have owned it and will certainly miss it... I put down the deposit on the Mustang today. In the end it was a quick decision. Driving to work, changed my route and now ordered! I'll have to sell my Chimaera to help fund it but no money due until the end of the year so I get one final summer with my TVR...
I figure I can always come back to TVR ownership in the future, I am sure I will!

Thats a shame! Once you sell a TVR, you will always come back.....I figure I can always come back to TVR ownership in the future, I am sure I will!
We rented a Shelby Mustang Convertible from Hertz in Vegas for 3 weeks about 7 years ago (a long time, I know!). This was a detuned version (350 bhp) for rental. It was great fun, turned lots of heads in the US, but to be honest was nothing like our Tamora. A full throttle Shelby will obviously be better than the version I drove, but a 'Stang is very different to a TVR.
Might help you a little.....

I think Russel is talking about the upcoming model, which plays in a different league then the old one, now pumping out 418 bhp as GT version (IDRS, etc...). It was quicker in Laguna Seca then tha last BOSS 302.
From what I read it must be a pretty good sports car. German magazine sportAUTO did a few laps in Hockenheim and it was .2 seconds shy of the current BMW M4. I would not consider it as a TVR replacement, but to be honest about replacing my company car with a GT (the Coyote V8 one...) next year.
Do it, I love the new Mustang, expecially the Fastback line and the really nice interieur.
Björn.

This is the car I have ordered :

2015 UK model, should be delivered Q4 2015. 5.0l V8, cost me £35,000 with various options included. I think that is very good value if you want a big V8, which we all do.
The TVR is clearly the better looking car, better noise, more exciting etc. However, now being a dad I just haven't had time to cover miles in the TVR. My thought is the Mustang has a V8 and sounds pretty nice, it is safer, more reliable and has more space which means using it much more often when out with the 'new' family. In a straight line it is probably quicker than my Chimaera too, although I feel sad saying that - I am certainly more of a TVR fan than Mustang fan!
I'll bring it down to a TVR meet when it arrives and see how I feel driving away - would I rather be in the TVR...

Great value! I had the use of a 2013 Boss several times and by all accounts the new model is better. My Tuscan S and Griff would always win on looks and outright excitement but thought the Boss was a brilliant compromise if you need four seats. Engine was a cracker with 444hp to 7500 rpm and the service costs are absurdly low.
I'm just waiting to see what TVR come out with, if they finally do, otherwise think I'll be going this route also.
