Scratch 'n' diff

I 'gunked' the diff today whilst I was preparing the chassis, and noticed how bad it still looks.
I've never taken a diff apart before, but was wondering if it was straight forward to take the casing off and get it blasted and coated. Seeing as the chassis is going to be porn when it's finished, 'to spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar's sake it would be rude not to.

Can you just undo the big nut on the prop shaft end, and all the smaller bolts on the back end, to remove the casing? Or is it not that simple?

Don't touch the big nut at the prop end you may upset the pinion preload and this doesn't hold the back cover on anyway. Just undo the bolts on the back cover and tap it off. You will have to re-seal the cover when it goes back on. (Drain the oil first) without special tools/knowledge you can't remove the internals of the diff casing if that makes any sence.

Thanks for the heads up. So its the just the back cover that comes off... Oh well. I suppose I can just scrub it till it's clean. Remove the back cover and paint. Clean out the inside, re-seal and paint that too.
