What van do I buy!!!
Discussion
I have a budget of £2,500 to spend on a second hand van. Transporter is out of the question, madly over priced.
Traveling some days 60 miles for a job so needs to have decent mpg and enough room some days to carry gardening tool and green waste. All other sites have conflicting arguments about whats good and whats not.
Economical, comfortable ish ride, handle extensive distances, can carry fair amount.
Can you help me narrow one or two down, maybe suggest a decent model.
Cheers

I looked at the pictures and wondered why the Rev counter had 2 needles. What a bellend.

My experience of Transits ( you did mention Transporter ,so I'd take it you are talking similar size) , is that they are THIRSTY brutes. Comfortable to drive, but our fleet never had one stolen, just bits off them ( the security issue of the spare must be a joke in camp fire tales). Punctures- we refused point blank to change wheels with the Ford kit, on safety grounds as the height off the ground became excessive.

I found that as well, 2 trips to Sheffield and back, 320 miles, £90
I wasnt expecting Mondeo MPG, but something near it would have been nice

As I think of it, my business is attached to a landscaping business - they mainly use Isuzu pick-ups, like little mini lorries, don't know the name.
But as a general principle, if you're a gardener you may want a pick up.
Thought about a pick up, been told they drink fuel. But as a general principle, if you're a gardener you may want a pick up.

Berlingo 2.0 HDi, have a very good reputation +45mpg.
I had one of these as my first van when I started out on my own ( electrician ) . Bought it with 60,000 on it, sold it at 120,000. They were regularly used as parts chasers for garages and I've seen them for sale with over 200,000 on the clock. Wanted for nothing other than usual service items. Great on fuel £70 to fill it and 520 miles to the tank. In 2.0 hdi form unladen surprisingly swift. Sold it for a new shape 1.6hdi berlingo which did 40 miles less to a tank and has less room in the back !!!!!! Needed a bigger van so now have a transit custom, nice van but again not great on juice.
