It used to be that passing a gritting lorry was accompanied by the clatter of grit pebble dashing the side of your car.

I passed one last night and could see the load being scattered but there was no 'clatter'. It then struck me that its been quite a while since i remember being 'clattered'

Have they changed to more of a powder rather than the grit/salt bullets of old? or maybe it was only 'salting' and not 'gritting'..............?

Anyone know?

I think they use rock salt nowadays rather than grit/sand as it just dissolves into water and doesn't block up drains as it get's washed away.
