On a very quiet country lane over Xmas, at the same time my wife's sister is burgled, taking all the kid's presents, TV, stereo, DVDs etc, police reaction,,, zilch, if we were going over the limit on the very quiet country lane, would have been pulled over straight away, what a lovely, fair moral country we live in!!! NOT!!!

Hiya Chris..

My sympathies to your sister and family. Must be awful at any time of the year, but especially at Chrismas, must be expecially upsetting....

I can fully understand your gripe and if I wasn't a bobby and suffered the same incident, would be exactly the same as you..

However, I could introduce you to a family that I'm involved with at the moment who's 17 year old daughter was killed on a country road, after her car collided with a speeding motorists who had lost control, coming in the other direction.

They would give their entire house and contents away, 10 times over, to get back their beautiful daughter, so cruelly taken from them by a selfish speeding driver...

There are flips to the coin....

I do understand that fully I really do, and I do believe there should be more 'human' police on the roads, but at the time, it was where the policemen were situated, it was a very quiet country road, no pubs nearby where there is a chance of drunks in the road (or drink drivers), and he honestly looked bored! I am sure he would have been able to cattch the theiving scum who ruined my Sister in law's Xmas, (twice!!), instead of this potentially disasterous doctrine of trying to criminalise the motoring population!

So it seems the police failed at catching the burglar and stopping the speeding motorist.

What are you trying to say Roadcop?

Hiya Chris..

You weren't clear in your first post...Was there a speed enforcement check nearby, during the time of the burglary?

The problem is; more people die on british roads every day than in any burglary...

If burglars killed 15 people per day, there'd be an outcry and we wouldn't stand for it...So why do we stand for that number and more being killed on the roads every day. Why? Because I don't know.

To us, our cars are like the Americans view their guns. It's ours, we pay for it, we pay tax etc to have it on the road. Why should we obey rules to continue to use it? Why? Because it's a deadly weapon and the only time the masses generally have in their possession something which can kill very easily.

Becuase shit happens RC! Thats why! Man i dont understand you sometimes. The "speeding driver who lost control"....whyd he lose control? Speeding maybe? Maybe not! Was speed the primary cause of the accident to which you refer or not?

To even link an ACCIDENT with a burglary ( hinting as if it dosent matter about being burgled) is a shitty comparison. One is entirely UNFORESEEN, the other is premeditated. Theres absolutely no way you can trade one off against the other or try to justify why scum are being given free reign. So they dont kill 15 a day, so what? They degrade peoples lives to much the same degree while the law; the thing YOU GUYS are supposed to uphold, lets em run riot! What do you think of that?

So the guy was exceeding the speed limits, so what? So he had an accident, so what? Thats life...and death as it happens.
People die in their millions every day from hunger and torture and acts carried out by " law protected burglars", government and any other number of other things: I dont see the scammers rushing in to help them though...no money in it.....is there?

Accidents....theyre a part of living, theyre a risk, we all know the risks every time we get out of bed on a morning, but even lying in bed is a risk. Maybe we should have some enforcement there as well?

I am frustrated and pissed off with this kind of emotive bullcrap.

I really don't know, I just seen a very cold and very wet policeman with a speed gun checking our speed.

That doesn't make being burgled and having scum defacting in one's home any easier to swallow, (excuse the pun!) It's the way the police admit defeat at seemingly the first hurdle regarding any other crime apart from motoring offences (and I am not saying that certain motoring offences are any less criminal) for example, because they have Nike trainer footprints, there's nothing they can do because it's such a popular trainer.

If burglars killed 15 people per day, there'd be an outcry and we wouldn't stand for it...So why do we stand for that number and more being killed on the roads every day. Why? Because I don't know.

I suspect if there were more police both on the roads and on the streets, road deaths would be cut, as I'm sure that not all road deaths are cause by not heeding the speed limit, and it's more about some morons feel they can do what they like, as long as they don't exceed the limit, which, in my view is just as lethal.

To us, our cars are like the Americans view their guns. It's ours, we pay for it, we pay tax etc to have it on the road. Why should we obey rules to continue to use it? Why? Quite a generalisation, not all of us think that way, and we stay within the law whilst driving (well,,, most of the time!!), and, like the majority of motorists, especially on here, I would be devastated if I injured anyone due to bad driving, so I don't do it, and I'm sure most of us think the same.
The point is that there should be a 'happy equalibrium' between road and street crime, because, at the moment, it does 'seem' that motorists are being used as cash cows, and burglers who made my wife's sister's Xmas hell have no chance of being caught, if I were cynical, I would probably think that would cost the force too much money to pursue! I hope I am wrong!

We had the pleasure of being overtaken by a (presumably drunk) moron in a Land Rover on an icy road near Malham Cove on Boxing Day. He lost the rear end twice, but somehow stayed on the road. I support the presence of Police on the roads to deal with that kind of lunatic (although they cannot unfortunately be everywhere, so they doidn't get this one).

I would also like to feel that there would be Police around to deter burglaries in our street, one hundred yards from the Police Station, but of course, this once main station is no longer manned 24 hours a day, despite the supposed massive increase in Police numbers. The result is that burglaries continue to increase in the nearby streets.

I think you've hit the nail on the head...!

Traffic police to deal with 'traffic' matters...

CID to deal with burglary investigation and serious offences.

Beat bobbies to be the 'in betweens'...

Although I sympathise with our member who's sister has been burgled; Does anybody realise this sort of griping against the police is one of the reasons why traffic police numbers have been slashed, in favour of robot cameras?

WON'T ANYBODY REALISE THAT BLEATING ABOUT POLICE TIME SPENT ON MOTORING OFFENCES ONLY PLAYS INTO THE HANDS OF THE PEOPLE WHO WANT SUCH OFFENCES DETECTED BY AUTOMATIC MEANS ONLY

Deltaf....you are splitting hairs here.....

Remember, Trafpols deal with Roads and Burglary squads deal with Burglars.

Obviously its not as simple as this but this is the bottom line.

Oh, i forgot. A Trafpol can deal with Burglaries but i dont think that a Burglary Squad Detective could report a Fatal.

Theres a bigger problem in the above picture, its called Society........certainly not one that hardworking Police Officers can be blamed for.

I didn't want a slanging match, I guess I just needed to 'vent my frustration' at the state of this country and priorities these days, and it is society as a whole that is to blame, but the loony government and equally loony policies do nothing to help, not the police force's fault at all, they have to tow the line,,

I'd have thought a driver who was driving dangerously would be more accurate. Either way, throw the book at him/her.

just my twopennth,
A friend of mine was also burguled ten days before christmas.
It later transpires that her x had left a drunken message on her brothers mobile from the house (she was out the night of the burgulary, and the police have a recording of the call and a statement from brother). Crazy I know but he did, now the back door was forced. He has no right to be in the house no key and no rights to the property.
The christmas tree was trashed items and money stolen.

Now heres the best bit, we are now dealing with the chief inspector of our local ststion as no action has been taken. They have his address and don't seem bothered.
The chief inspector agrees that a crime has been commited and should have been investigated, with at least questioning the chap as the first step.

the world realy has gone mad, and heres the proof
about six monthes ago on a sunday afternoon a police lady turned up at my home.
Aparently a traffic warden had claimed he saw my car crack the numberplate on his car.
You quessed it sunday lunch ruined down the station.
Incidently no charges were brought as the traffic warden claimed I tried to run him over aswell.
any way the council wanted £120.00 for a replacement no.plate. Laugh I nearly cried.
Any way it ended up with the traffic guy getting the long bag. (sack)
He was under a lot of stress they said as asomeone had actually tried to run him over?????? on a previous occasion.
I Know any report should be investigated, but what about my mate , she is in bits realy scared.
any ideas roadcop? Nick.

Very sorry to hear about your sister's inlaws problem.

This may not apply to your sister's inlaws or to yourself but I see this day in and day out.

1. People who spend lots of money on expensive cars parked on driveways or parked outside in the road with expensive houses and expensive belongings sitting inside theose houses.

2. People who drive expensive cars to pub car parks and dog walking areas leaving expensive equipment or handbags on the seat.

3. Very little thought or money spent on security to safeguard the house/cars/belongings/equipment.

Just shows you where most peoples priorities lie

1.They spend money on the gear but do not do anything about protecting it.
2.They leave doors insecure whilst they go out.
3.They leave windows open.
4.They do not use alarm systems.
5.They do not have alarm systems.
6.They have easy access to rear aspects of their property.
7. They pay little attention to who is poking around the neighbours property
8. They do not know their neighbours or even anyone in their immediate vicinity.
9. They let the fronts of their property get covered in by hedges and fences so neighbours cannot see who is poking about their property.
10. They leave car keys on display in windows and access to the keys by a simple hook on a stick through letter boxes and cat flaps.

They do spend money on having fun and driving their expensive cars to the limit and beyond before they leave the laptop on the seat in the pub car park.
They then whinge when their house gets broken into or the laptop goes missing because the Police are not doing what they think the Police should be doing!

They think that is running around trying to pick up the pieces of peoples dispare when it could quite easily have been avoided in the first place if those peoples priorities were different. Sadly they are not. It is always someone elses fault that they have been ravaged by crime and the immediate emphasis is not on redressing the problem because I pay my tax and get little back for it .

In a few words. Its all about priorities and things which are important. Keeping valuables safe is obviously not important. Driving a car to beyond its limits obviously is .

Thanks Gone, what you say makes a lot of sense.
I personally take all the precations and a few more to make sure my goods are covered.
However in the case I speak of there is quite clearly a lack of action, which is simply not on.
All we have seen is that the police simply fail to take decisive action where required.
I think there must be a terrible problem, when the police simply fail to offer protection to the citizens they are paid to protect.
maybe they are to go the same way as every other service, run as a PLC.

To quote John Lydon. Ever feel you been conned.
